 I just ordered my Outlaw today, thanks to all who helped steer me towards it :D. I want to know what I have to do to get ready for it. I have a Hot Bodies tuned pipe for my 21bb will that work for the Picco? at least temporarily? If I do have to upgrade, what should it be?
Also, I have a Ofna 16t vented clutch bell. Will the Hot Bodies savage clutch shoes upgrade work for the Picco? If not what do you suggest and where to get it (money is tight)?
I have replaced all my dogbones with CVD's except for the rear drive shaft, I have the extended chassis plates and HB hasn't made a CVD for that yet.
Plus, I've read that the Picco is a direct bolt in, no mod's, is that true?
I just want my savage to be ready for all that power I hear the Picco has!:flamer:
Any other special break-in tips or advice period is totally welcomed!
Thanks Everyone!

I think you're gonna like the Picco. I too have extended tvp's and have the same drive train set up you do. However, I just got the truck tuned after breakin this weekend and broke the extended rear center driveline. I think the only upgrade is the titanium one that I see for sale at New Era Models. So, be ready to buy that. I wasn't bashing hard at all either. I have yet to get this thing to wheelie. I hear others telling how their truck will wheelie on demand, mabye it just won't happen with extended tvp's, I dunno. I also run big joe tires mabye the rotational mass is too large. The 16t clutch bell seems to be the recomended choice of the savage guru's, I'm running that as well. Well as of now my truck is a paper weight as I wait for the funds to upgrade the rear driveline. Enjoy your new motor.

The picco is so nice. I wish I had a savage then I could put one of those monster suckers in it and run over T-Maxxs.

Steve

Well here is my update:

On tank 10 and just about there with the tuning. BE PATIENT! This one is NOT easy to tune. But, with a little patience and a good ear you should be FLYING in no time. Was busting wheelies today without much effort.

I havent upgraded the clutch or the clutchbell. Stock has been working fine. The only drive-line upgrades I have done was to switch to the chrome dogbones. I'm not saying I wont have to upgrade sooner or later, just as of now all is well.

When you first go through the break-in process, if you dont have a roto-start, then this is what you will do, in this order.

Get a pen and paper

Screw the High Speed Needle all the way in and write down how man turns it was set at.

Screw the Low Speed Needle (on the end of the slide) all the way in and write down how man turns it was set at.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!

Then, completely unscrew both and make sure there is no rubber debris in either the carb, barrel or on the needles themself.

Lightly grease and replace needles at your factory found settings.

Use the OFNA plugs if possible. They come with 2 rings. Use both, especially if you have a pullstart. In fact, once you tighten down the glo-plug, loosen it 1 half turn to make initial startup easier. Once running you can tighten it with no problem.

Idle the first 2 tanks. It will stall MANY times. Dont worry.

Proceed with your preferred method of break-in. Mind you, that piece of paper you wrote the setting down on will be VERY helpful. You MAY get frustrated. Dont sweat it, once you get this pig tuned you will pitch a tent!

I use the MotorSaver air filter (with HPI's name on it) and it works great.

I also jumped up to the THS one Piece tuned pipe. Loud as hell but performs.

Temps run steady at 260 right now and peak at 280.

I'm still getting my sweet spot but I'm in that close ballpark now.

POWER POWER POWER POWER POWER POWER POWER POWER !

-Good Luck!

christian's not kidding when he said you have to be patient when you're tuning it, cuz it's a pain in the ass. if this thing only had a different carb, it would be a mean beast. i finally got my problems worked out. i did app. what chris did, not in the same order. but i ended up taking all needles out, lubing rings, and started from scratch. (this was after about 12 tanks) it hesitated when i gave it gas on take off. don't know what i did, but after i started over, it worked just fine. maybe you just have to reset/lube o rings every once in a while. anyone have this same problem?? but, hey other than that, it's a beast.

Which O rings are you guys refering to?Is it the O ring on the HSN ?If so,What kind of lube do i use on that:cheers:

Thanks

The O-Rings on both needles. They should be seated in the grooves.

I used a very light coating of lithium grease. Thats just what I had at the time.

I figured the the rear drive-line will snap with the picco, but does the New Era fit the Hot Bodies extended TVP's? I heard HB TVPs are longer

Thanks for the break in info, fortunatly I consider myself to be rather patient, like Hienz Ketchup--"the best things come to those who wait"
But are you guys running the stock clutch setup?:whip:

Yes - and so far no problems with the stock clutch and clutch bell. I do however need to install my HB brake. Just wish I could find someone locally to Lap the thing for me first.

can't comment on the TVP's and the rear center shaft. That one I dont know.

-Chris

yeah chris, I have the HB brake it is amazing, it can lock all 4 up for a really impressive power skid. Its a blast for dirt, but you have to take it easy on pavement because the truck endos cuz of the sudden stopping power. I also recommend getting a stronger alluminium brake hub, I've heard a few horror stories about the plastic one stripping and away she goes. GPM makes one and its only about 8 bucks

Uh Oh on the driveline, I already ordered mine, I hope it is gonna fit. I have the Hotbodies extended tvp's, I hope the titanium driveline from New Era will be a good length for me. I just figured everyone was making the extendeds the same length, but why would they do that?? And , I am running a mugen three shoe clutch, no probs so far, truck won't run long enough to enjoy currently, things keep breaking from all the power, and It ran away from me once, that caused some damage too of course, I am waiting to see this thing do wheelies, but so far, it only seems like a story.....

I just did the math, I believe the New Era titanium rear driveline will be fine, and as far as I know, it is the only aftermarket option, please correct me if I'm wrong gang!!!

Unsalvageable please let me know if the new era driveline will work for the HB extended TVP's cuz if it works I will follow in your foot steps.

-Sorry no vid but if I lock up my brakes at full speed the truck will actually flip forward because of the super grip.

Got my titanium center extended dog bone. Bottom line it works. But, it is a little shorter, like 1/8 inches, why is that???? Any how, it fit pretty sloppy without some mods. It could and would settle all the way into the tranny cup and just barely be long enough to stay installed. I didn't like this fit so, I installed some fuel tubing at both dog bone cups, about 1/8" at each end, this took up the slop and pretty much centers the dog bone in its installation. Hope this will prove to be an ok fix. At least until somebody comes out with an extended cvd..... I'm off to bash until I find the next weekest links, still no wheelies, I'm waiting!!!!

Extended Dogbones for Truckzilla Savage

Hi ....Just picked up a used Truckzilla but was missing the extended dogbone .....had a look and New Era sell a couple of different types ....the only one that fits properly is the 120mm extended dogbone. The titantium bogbone is 115mm in length so it dosen't quite fit. Had a look a the Savage 25 manual and even setting up a stock Savage 25 I noted that they used rubber O-Rings in the housing where the dogbones are fitted. This would help anyone using the Titanium bogbones to sit correctly and also cut down on vibration. does anyone have a link to a pdf file that describes the assembly of the Hot Bodies Truckzilla. I have the Truckzilla but could only use the stock Savage 25 manual ......the TVP's on the Truckzilla are longer but unless I need a special engine mount for the 25 engine it just dosen't seem to fit properly ....the side of the chassis is cut differently!!! I have the .46 engine with the correct mount but it looks like it's been pretty bashed and is gonna need a little tlc to get it to run .......when I have a little more spare time! Thanks in advance to any or all that can help!!! Kind regards, Bob.
