I just got myself a Diablo .28 and my question is how do i break it in?
this is in the savage forum because it's going on a savage

yes, sry, i should have been more specific. what i meant was the condidtions here are COLD (25 for a high) and i was wondering what are sutable conditions for break-in.

I broke in my S-25 and my .12R SS that I had in january. They ran fine for a couple of gallons, then I sold them. I didn't brake them in differently than I normally would have.

so if i heat the engine up with a hair dryer, i can break it in outside?

You need a temp gauge and you should wrap the head in aluminum foil so the motor will reach operating temps. Use the temp gauge to check this. Operating temps 180-220 degrees. Pre-heat the engine up with a hair dryer so it will make starting it easier.

I have a temp gun, should I keep in wrapped in aluminum foil while it's breaking in?
Also, the servo arm doesn't move the carb alot, will this stop eventually? or do i have to oil it up? i would like to use the radio to controll the throttle instead of useing my fingers, i used my fingers and i inhaled alot of nitro exaust, i coughed up a little bit of blood, lol. :spit:

Well, you want the engine up to operating temp for break in. It doesn't matter what the temp is outside as long as the metal of the engine reaches its break in temperatur. breaking in an engine when the enginew itself is below normal operating temp is the problem.

As for the carb, take the linkage off, and see if the carb will open and shut easily without the servo attached. If so, then you need to adjust your servo linkage. I would explain but it's a lot of typing and a search would yeild thousands of explanations all better than mine.

KEYS
Preheat engine with hairdryer/heat gun
Keep engine at normal operating/break in temp.
Do not run the engine cool (will cause excessive wear and decreased engine life)
Keep engine up to operating temp while running after break in (maybe need some tin foil to cover head)

Cooler weather means richer mixture, do NOT use leaning (less fuel)as a method of keeping the engine hot. The reduced fuel supply means reduced oil and short engine life.
