I can usually fix all the bugs in my system but I'm clueless about this one.

I'm running Vista Home Premium. I've been running Yahoo Instant Messenger just fine with the exception of the voice feature. I power up the laptop now and, (after Windows gets loaded), a window pops up saying that YIM has stopped working when I try to log on. Here's where it gets fun, I can log-off my laptop and log back in with my wife's user name, (on the laptop), and then log onto YIM with MY user name and everything is fine.

There has got to be a check mark in a box somewhere that I can't find that's stopping YIM from running when I log on under my user for the laptop.

I'm not that familier with Vista to begin with so if anyone can help, please do!!

Thanks!

Boy Vista is permissions pscycotic...

I would do an uninstall of YIM and reinstall to step thru the Vista "Allow" process again....you will drive your self crazy trying to find the special super secret checkbox.

I have Vista on One of my laptops.....but I hate it...Bill has lost his mind.

Best of luck...

I tried to help someone out a couple of weeks ago with a laptop running vista.
Where you had the "Run" command at the start button, it's now Start, Programs, Accessories, System, Run. How convenient.
Apparently Vista is little more than XP with more security patches pre-installed.
So secure there's nothing you can do to correct what it won't do.

And yes, Billy Gates has lost it.

Hmmmm...........try copying your wifes Yahoo profile over yours.....if U have to explain that....we are in trouble..;)

It is clearly profile specific as you say when you log into her login all is good.

Weird....I hate Microsoft ....and most of my living in one way or another comes from them.....

Well, for some reason I'm not aware of as of yet, I can get YIM to run under my user account but only if I run it as an admin. (right-click on icon> "run as administrator") Little box pops up and asks if it is OK to run now. I don't know why, it never done it before.

Guess the important thing is that its finally running, now just need to figure out the "permissions" so I don't have the blessed window poppin' up....

Any ideas on that??

Here's the reason why; You have to install the program with the intended account as administrator. XP is the same way, and I had the same issues when I installed Media Center edition (Pro, but with a fancy media player skin).

To fix; log out of all accounts, then into the MAIN administrator. Promote the intended account to administrator level, then log out of Admin, over to the intended account. Install yahoo, then demote the account without logging out. Then log out, then back in. That _should_ fix it.

Holy crap thats alot of messing around. I've got a new laptop thats vista capable but I'll stick with xp thats what we run at work and thats whats on my desktop. I dread the day the IT dept at work switches everything to vista it's just a matter of time UGH!

If you go to the "Messenger" tab on the top left of the window, then to preferences, the first option in the general tab (The first one that pops up). Does that help?

I stay logged in as the admin when I'm on.......

.21 - tried choosing all different settings with the proxie but to no avail......

It'll run, just have to give it permission to do so........

gets irritating but at least it is running now.....

Thanks to all!!
