Well just got it in the mail today along with a new era full center skid but anywayson the roll bar i got it to protect the head more and seemed like the best roll bar i could find but i have have a few questions.

1. How much more protection did you notice

2. How well does the powder coat hold up

3. Am i the only one that doesn't like how it mounts right under the gas tank for some reason i dont liekt hat mount point it makes the tank all screwy and seems like if it has a hard enough landing on the side it couls easily rip the screw right out of the soft plastic tank or i could just be a lil paranoid.

Well I've got the rollbar, but I have an XTM 21 chassis so the tank mount is actually an inch or so closer to the nose. As for the powder coat, I've run alot without a body, so the steel's showing through wuite a bit. As for engine protection, NO PROBLEM! It's a very strong rollbar. Don't forget to use insulation between the rollbar and metal mounting points (chassis). I used pieces of bicycle innertube to eliminate the possibility of metal-to-metal radio noise.

Dido with what bomber said. It's a very nice investment and well worth the $.

A sort of fix for your fuel tank problem is to cut off that leg of the tank and use a nut/bolt to connect the roll bar to the chassis instead of depending on the soft plastic from the tank to hold up. It won't!

The only thing that I wish, is that it had another bar that went toward the rear shock tower to give you better protection for the engine head. I run a weird configuration on my maxx (normally half body... don't ask) so I have a front bumper mounted on my rear body mounts to give me clearance between the top of the roll bar and the engine.

This is an old pic, but you can see what I'm talking about:

I run a 21 conversion, so I don't have the tank problem you do. But I did before I did the conversion.

I have it,

1. Protection is great I guess if I learn how to drive I wont be on my lid as much. But the bar saves me alot.

2. Strangest thing about that powdercoating. There is none on the top where the steel meets the ground.

3. Not a big fan of how it mounted. Esp. cause I had my centerskid loctited in when I decided to put the cage on.

4. One problem I really dont like about the cage at all w/my 2.5 maxx is that if you need for some reason to get to the LSN w/the cage on you can't do it. It blocks the only access you have to the needle. :depress: I do not have the carbflip done on my maxx. Other than that I love the cage. Good luck with it.

Mike, I think your talking about something else. What is being discussed is a 3 point roll bar that mounts to the front bulkhead, 1 screw of the fuel tank and the exhaust mount screw. Nothing to do with the center skid or stopping you from adjusting the low speed needle on the carb.

yea were talking about this roll bar which olds said already doesn't effect adjusting the LSN and nothing to do with a center skid

umm I have that same roll bar, and for some reason I have trouble reaching my LSN. Also if you have a center skid on your truck you can't easily take off the fuel tank to place the rollbar on the truck or remove it.

oh i just drilled holes in my skid so i have access to one of my engine moutn screws and 2 of my tank screews

I was thinking of doing the same thing with my skid. Ihave the RPM skid and its not likely that I will ruin the skid by doin this. It works well for you? Olds how did you reach your LSN? I had a bitch of a time doin that. I have not done a carb flip as of yet.

~Michael

yea the holes in the skid work fine for me but I'm running a Full new era models alum skid but i dont think that matter I'm sure itll work even better with a RPM skid because its soft plastic material

I still don't know why you guys had to put holes in your skid for the roll bar. For the gastank and engine mount screws, yes, but not for the roll bar.

I have my 3-point on a 21 maxx, so I have an extra inch in the ass end. I don't remember when I had it on my 15 maxx before turning it into a 21. I'll probably be getting one for my new 15 maxx that i recently built though and will be dealing with the issues your talking about.

But even on that, I have moved my fuel tank to where the battery box sits (ofna buggy tank, much gooder) and I have my bat pack ziptied to where the stock tank used to go. So I'll still be able to move stuff around if need be.

nah i didnt drill the holes for the roll bar i did it so i could get to the tank screws and engine moutn screws

i just got a t maxx 3.3 #4907, bought new era roll bar and the site said it would fit, but it absolutely does not fit. i called them and i am waiting to hear back... does anybody know something that works good and fits? obviously,haha...
