i just got a temp gauge for my traxxas nitro sport and i thought it was overheating and i was right. its running at almost 400 degrees F. i was told to just richin it a little till it goes down to 210 degrees. I'm running 30% nitro and i know it burns hotter but i dont think it burns 190 degrees hotter. my truck when it gets up to 380 degrees it stalls out. i dont know what to do to make it stop overheating. anyone have any ideas?

What plug are you running? More Nitro usually brings your temps DOWN...not skyrocket them. Have you sealed your engine? I assume this is a TRX 2.5 or 3.3 motor?

Assuming you haven;t completely fried your motor (400 degrees is WAAAAY too hot)....I would reset it to factory settings and start from there. If it's already broken in, it should blubber all over the place since factory settings are VERY rich. Start re-tuning from there.

Usually with 30% Nitro you should be running a Medium plug like an O'Donnell 99.

Also verify your temp gauge is accurate. Boil some water in a pan....shoot at it. Should be @ 212 degrees or so. I had a temp gauge that was 102 degrees off and freaked me out completely when it read like 380 or something silly. Turned out to be a bad gauge.

Dude right now i have the same problem and i can't understand why.

2 weeks ago my Traxxas T-Maxx was running better then ever, now its over heating, cutting out when i give it a good burst of throttle, and its dying!

I got my heat gauge after running a couple good laps around my yard and it was running at 290 to 305 and that's really hot! It was so hot after running it that its started to smoke out of the engine!

I'm not really running it lean either.

Check your motor for air leaks. An Air Leak will lean out your mixture pretty bad, and even if your needles are set rich.....they don't matter much with an air leak.
