yeah this seems to be a typical issue amongst the t-maxx 2.5. i've done everthing from cleaning the engine, creating better airflow, richening the fuel mixture(made it too rich at one point). i've been using the trinity fuel for a while now and only this spring/summer it's been overheating. i used to overheat it but that was due to excessive abuse( doing donuts ). i'm just curious as to what my problem could be...its quite frustrating.

We need some more info about your rig. Does it run good? How hot it's getting. What size tires, clutch bell and spur gear, ect... My 2.5 has always been a bugger(bought used/half shot). Getting hot(320 or so), runnin' crappy, holding rpm's after letting off the throttle. All the signs of an air leak, basically. I sealed the engine and nothing changed. Finally, I thought again about the lack of compression, so I tried tightening the head bolts. With an allen wrench by itself, they wouldn't budge, but with a little torque persuasion(small breaker bar) I got them to move about a 1/4 turn each. I checked to see if I could move the piston past the pinch as easily as I could before and it was a lot tighter. Bingo! Factory settings, slowly leaned 'er out, and it runs great. Check your head bolts the way you see fit; I certainly don't recommend what I did. I was prepared to part ways with this engine if any of the bolts would have stripped/broke.

yeah it normally runs well. i've torqued my head bolts already. no signs of any leak. i purchased a new spur gear. its a steel aftermarket(forgot the brand name). i also purchased a new air intake from team associated. and upgraded my shocks a bit. other than that everything is basically stock.

It seems that most people with a 2.5 Maxx has had heat issues at one time or another. It's just that a .15 on a truck this size is too under powered. Mine runs great now, but climbs into the 290's. That's with the outside temp around 75. I just stopped worrying about it. If I stop and let it idle for 15-30 seconds, it jumps down to around 255. But if I go any richer on the hsn, it won't hit 2nd gear. I forgot to mention that those temps are without a body. As soon as I fixed it and got 'er half-assed tuned, I ran outta fuel. I'm thinking about stepping up to 30%. I'm running 18/72 gearing with new 3.3 stock tires. With the stock 2.5 tires, it has no top end with this gear combo. How hot does your mill get?
