I am new to the savage and I must admit that it has replaced my Maxx as my favorite truck. I put an Ofna Outlaw .26 on it and it is insane! The only problem I am having is that when I run out of gas I blow the glow plug. The engine is tuned well, don't have a temp gun yet, but there is a nice smoke trail at all rpms and it pulls wheelies on command. I am also using Blue Thunder 20%, and my LHS tolg me to use Q series plugs.

man...I've been having the exact same problems with my wasp .26! (same as outlaw .26) when i let it run out of fuel at idle or if i plug the exhaust tip to kill the engine I've blown a number of glow plugs. when I'm running the engine it makes crazy power at 200-210 degrees no matter how hard i drive the truck, and it has never flamed out on me during the run. also i have never blew a glow plug when I'm in the middle of a bash/race, only when i let it run out of fuel or try to shut it down.
I've tried OS A5's and A8's, odonnel 99's dynamite 99's, these plugs all run very nicely in the wasp .26 just that i blow them out on shutdown. i run 30% monster, an extra 10mm shim, and hot bodies pipe. anyone have an idea what is going on?

interesting, I've never blown a plug on my outlaws. I'm runnin O.S. A3 plugs in mine. I'm glad you mentioned your temps alkyula, I've noticed lately that I don't need to run them any hotter than 220ish. Don't really see a power difference after that. I think this engine likes to have lots of fuel.

What plugs are you using now. The Ofna/Picco 51007 plug sucks. I have had nothing but bad luck with many of those.

The HPI #1503 Medium Cold R4 Platinum/Irridium Glow Plug works great in the Picco.

The McCoy MC-8 is also a good choice.

I'm not really familiar with the standards in which you're supposed to pick glow plugs but I havn't had any problems with the O.S. A3. Of course if I was running the wrong type of plug I probably wouldn't know it.

Tried the o.s 8 plug today cause thats all my LHS had in stock, and so far it performed well. No blown plugs today(just blown diffs!!)

me and my big freakin mouth... I went to start 'er up today and one of my A3's is dead. Of course that engine did get a little hotter than normal yesterday, about 290 or so. I'll just say this, as long as I keep engine temps in the 210-240 range I don't have any problems with the A3's. I went to start it up with an 8 I had layin around and it wouldn't stay runnin.. the other engine in my truck started with one pull.

FWIW the motor is designed for a long plug and the OS is not a long plug. It is a few threads shorter than an MC-8 or an Ofna 51007. The end result is you will get a little less compression which could mean a little less power. You may not notice the difference in power though...

for me the O.S. plugs and the longer odonnel/dynamite plugs made pretty much the same power, hard for me to tell which plugs threw the savage on its lid more violently..lol. i think i will try some A3's, as I've heard they last forever.
