RC Driving Style
i got bored last night and decided to do some wrenching. as of now i have about 3 qaurts thru the s-25...and i feel it is fully broken in. the power it put out was nice...did the occasional wheelie now and then in grass and semi-wet dirt. now I've ran this same xtm 24.7 in a x-termnator buggy..and a t-maxx. in the buggy it was a pretty fast mill...and in the t-maxx it would spin the tires on any surface....but i still never saw awheelie. and as of now i have about 2 gallons thru the xtm. anyway...after putting it in the savage and getting it up to temp...i was shocked by the sound of my body scraping along the street..yeah this 24.7 made it do a back flip on pavement....I've never even was able to pull a wheelie on pavement before! and i swear the 24.7 has more top speed than the s-25....the s-25 maybe rated at more rpms..but i think the 24.7 has the torque to actually pull the rpms under load. factory rating s-25 2.5 vs 24.7 2.6? i dont know who is closer to there claimed HP but i do knowthe xtm kills the s-25. in any case...now the savage is running like its name implies....SAVAGE!

Savage Success!

I understand the wrenching nuerosis that comes when I'm not runnin the nitro. Usually I end up muckin up the worx, but it sounds like your on roll with the XTM 24.7. can't argue with success. This may be the way to go. I thought I would look into a "wasp 26" when my 25 give up hevos, but......

I've never ran an wasp/picco .26...or seen one run..but all i hear is that its a monster, and I'm sure if you go that route youll be more than happy. i can say that the standard xtm 24.7 i have with over two gallons thru it makes the stock s-25 seem very under powered....the savage is running like it should have in the first place now...and for 130$ I'm very pleased with the xtm 24.7 standard...everything i put it in absolutly screams.

Nimh's are heavy mann

I'm talkin with pissant about going for the nimh reciever battery pack. (see savage battery eater) These are undoubtably much heavier. This means I need "MORE POWER with BIGGER SPEAKERS" Always worked with car stereos and motorcycles.... Maybe I need the innovator "super charger" Aye!

Just ramblin for now! But I'm thinkin....

You say you are seeing wheelies in a heavier (Assumed) Savage vs a Maxx with the same motor. Does this mean a Savage wheelies easier from a chassis perspective, or is there a big gearing difference - or both?

well....with the t-maxx it would just spin out....i never saw a wheelie with the xtm 24.7 t-maxx. i mean it would spin out on perfect pavement like it was on dry dirt. i think a combination of more weight, gearing, and suspension putting the power down allows the savage to wheelie with the same 24.7 engine, and BTW I'm running the same stock t-maxx tires on the savage..so tire traction isnt the issue.

yes a roto-start will work on it. i have owned about 8 nitro engines..including an OS...and in my experience it is just as easy to tune as my OS...and will hold the tune well even with ambient temp changes. was very easy to break-in...and at 2 gallons is still running strong as ever. i haved praised the xtm 24.7 before...it seems every time i throw it into a diff r/c it makes that r/c a different monster.

it is the standard xtm 24.7. i have read around on forums that the pro version of the 24.7 has alot more power thru-out the rpm range..plus more top rpm..than the standard, and some that claim to own both a picco .26 and the 24.7 pro say they are damn near close in output. (with the picco having more up top). sounds nice..as the pro sleeve/piston will fit right into a standard xtm.

I also think that the xtm 24-7 is a better engine and more top speed. But at least you are having fun. Gotta love them wheelies....Nick

Alkyula--dude that is bitchen. What are your settings on the needles cause I am haveing a bit of a problem getting this to run right. I have a similar set u p on a savage I am trying to tune. it has stock gearing but the head is Golden Horizons. Looks wicked as hell!!

my setup (engine/drivetrain wise) is xtm 24.7, motor saver filter, hot bodies pipe, and ofna 125cc tank mod...with 15/49 gearing and i run stock T-maxx tires.

truthfully i cannot tell you exactly what i have my needles set at..i never pay attention to how many turns in or out i am..i jsut go by the way the engine is running. i can say that right now i have my low speed needle a little on the rich side...if it idles for 10 seconds it will load up quite a bit. and my high end needle is set so that after a few WOT burst back and forth off-road the temps are around 215-225...so really I'm running the engine on the safe side. BTW i only tune the savage off-road..as tuning the truck on pavement for 225 degress will always result in high temps once you go off road.

I have heard that but the savage I have needs to be tuned. Not mine but I am "borrowing it".Hehehe.

sry i forgot i have shocks 25 % stiffness thats probobly y it does wheelies

sry i forgot about the 20 % stiffness shocks thats y it does whellies:dumb:

All good here brother. This may come in handy later!

My 25 is stock. The frist time I hit the gas on pavement it flipped and thrashed the lid.

I'm sure that is true...and I'm glad that your s-25 is putting out that power....but for me it didnt happen...and i feel I'm a decent tuner and break my engines in very well (the xtm has 2+ gallons and has as much compression as day one) and with the 24.7 it is crazy...border line to much power. it seems that on average more s-25's are not able to pull wheels than the ones that do....at least the onesi see around and the ones i read about online.

Hmmm I've been wanting to take a look at the 24/7 for a long time now. I have been wanting one and just didn't get it. I almost bought the pro when I bought my 26. It's awesome to hear good things about it. Hey Al do you have pics of your ride yet??
