I was just wondering how you get the rear axle to steer, do you just put another front axle on to the rear, and would you recomend it? what Axles, and shocks would you consider to be the best for a 1/10 Crawler? And I know there are alot of pics out there but can you please post a pic of your rig/s so I can sort of get a feeling of what you guys run and like? I've been looking around at crawlers and I've been seriously thinking of ditching my sand rail idea for now untill I can afford to put a few grand into it! BIG thanks in advanced, dragd

The only actual crawlers to go with are, Axial, Losi, Berg, Bully or Venom. Thats it. Rear steer doesn't do much really. MOA (motor on axle) are the funnest and best performing crawlers there are, which Axial has one, the XR10, Bergs and Bully's are moa's and you can convert a Losi CC to one as well. To get started cheaper though, you will prolly need to look at an Ax10 or losi night crawler. NCnitro has a AX10 based crawler in the for sale section.

Very few competitive crawlers use a rear steering axle. I know that the Axial AX-10 and the Losi Mini Rock Crawler both use the same basic axles front and rear. The difference is the axle shaft and the lockout (the straight axle adapter for the rear) are replaced by a CV joint and a C-hub.

Damn, SNG, you're quick on the draw tonight.

I actually planned on building my own, I'm going to start out with the Super HellStrom Plates and the 2in Skid for All Jp Chassis, and to be honost I'm not actually going for cheap anymore now that I'm putting my sand rail to the side, but I still would like to know what specific axles and shocks you prefer ?!?!

oh, I almost forgot, its all from here http://www.jpcustomrcs.com/home.html

The super helstrom chassis is for exactly that, a super, not a 1/10. Since this is your first, I would recomend buying something like a rtr or roller bully first then replace parts to your liking. Or the axial xr10.

i dont know much about the MOA crawlers, but i have a scaler axial scx10 and i absolutly love it. goes anywhere i want it to... within reason, its not gonna climb straight up a wall. but where it does go is plenty for me, as i dont plan on doing any kind of comp crawling. i do agree with SNG on the rtr or roller to start with, i have seen a few build posts of full blown custom built crawlers they are very complicated and $$$ as well. good luck with the build and make sure to post up some While In Progress pics.:nopics:lol

I know your basically the crawler king and I definatly do apreciate your answer on getting a rtr or artr considering I am a newbie to crawling, but i guess you can call me a difficult person because I'm always looking for challenges an never the easy way out. so I'll Probably just do a boat load of research into crawlers before going ahead and even looking to buy a bolt!!! but thanks for the suggestion!!! ;^) And before I forget I sort of have an Idea on what a dig unit does but do you think you can explain to me or send me to a link on how it actually works or even sets up on a MOA? thanks, Dragd

On an MOA, you can do it 3 ways. You can buy a dig switch, like PunkRC's dig switch wich the motors wire to and it controls which one you want to lock, front or back. You can use a servo and some micro switches and it would be the same concept, the servo when switch by your 3 position 3rd channel, would click one switch and cut power to either motor. Or you can run dual esc's and using the right radio, shut down either one when you want.

ok, so I would need a new controler to use DIG which is no problem, I dont have a real transmitter meaning I use the stock ones the company gives me with the cars, any suggestions on transmitters ill probably have my parents pay for it and ask for it for christmas, lol

sorry, scratch that post, I'm a little tired lol, i didnt take in, it controlls it, but I still need a transmitter so any suggestions

The Futaba 4PK if you plan on going with dual ESC, but it is very pricey, depending on weather your parents are loaded or not you could also go with a the Spectrum DX3R it is less then the Futaba and will work with a punk dig or for around $100 you could go with the DX3E which will also work with the punk dig....As for what ever crawler you decide to go with just make sure it is all 10th scale 2.2 compatible so you stay comp legal, at least that seems like it is the way you are leaning towards. But I would say the best bang for your buck would be the XR10 kit, take it from people like me and Lloyd who have put are rigs through several changes, If I knew what I know now when I got into crawling I could have saved my self a lot of money, but then again watching my rig progressively get better by making little changes and sometimes big changes is part of the fun, mine started out as a bone stock ARTR Axial AX10, there is nothing left of the original rig, LOL!!!
