Well I'm having a little issue with my os 30vg clutch and I really don't know what to do.

When I have my clutch free(no screw in the front of the crank shaft) It spins just fine, but when I have the screw on it locks up and won't move at all.

I know its the little brass color thing in front of the clutch causing the drag, but I'm not sure what to do about it.
Here is a picture

Also, is it ok to use this 49T spur gear with a 15 tooth clutch bell? Is 49 15 a good combo to run or should I get a different set?

And lastly for now, about how many quarts of fuel will it take to do just the main break in of the heat cycle on a big block?
I am just looking for about how many quarts of fuel I will need to order.

Thanks for your help and sorry for the long read!

Have you tried some shims to get it all lined up right? I had a lot of problems on my lst2 until I got the ofna clutch shim kit which has a bunch of shims and a couple other bits that make it pretty easy to get it running true once you crank down the screw.

No, I sure haven't.
Honestly I'm really not sure how to use a shim on a clutch.

Thank you for your help!
I will buy the ofna shim kit and try it some time!

I had the same problem when I switched engines from the HPI .25 to the Axial .28. If I tightened the screw down tight, the clutch bell would not spin. I had to loosen it up a little and use lock tight on the screw. I then used some nail polish (clear) on the top of the screw head to make sure it did not come loose. Works like a champ and the clutch bell spins freely. Hope this helps Scoob!

get rid of that huge brass thing and use a shim kit. shim behind the bearings and in front of the bearings for best alignment and fit.

Thanks everyone!
I am going to shop around a little tomorrow, so I will definitely get a shim kit!

Last thing I need to know so I can look around tomorrow, is the clutch bell going to work with my spur gear?

49T spur gear with a 15 tooth clutch bell.
Thanks again!

Hope this helps

:yes:I had that setup awile ago on my X and it worked fine for me, Now i have 49T and 16T...if that helps!!

15/49 gearing is not going to be enough with the OS .30.I run 17/47 with my OS .30 and it still wheelies so much it's not even funny.

Don't know if you're still having the problem, but I had the same one when I switched out the clutch bells on my buggy's engine. The new one would bind with ANY shims on it, so I took them all off. The original had 4 in it.

I was just sayin that 49/15 worked fine for me, and did not find that it wheelied to much...well for me. Whatever, to each are own.:puke:

Its ALIVE!!

Went out and started this thing today(Its all fixed thanks guys! Got the parts at the LHS, the story about that later) And well, Words fail me at how easy this thing starts!
I would say it was a good 55º out side and the thing started in around 3 seconds first try!
It sounded amazing and the smell was even better!

The thing started great, but its not running so great(Supper sloppy Rich factory settings) I ended up leaning the HSN a full turn and it helped, but It's still not staying running.
I've been semi-out of the RC scene for around 8 months(I think? where did this year go?) and I think I was right in leaning the HSN or should I have leaned the mixture needle?

I've been in the hobby for around 4 years now but I just can't remember!:depress:

From here on is completely worthless, useless and quite boring no need to read it.

Ok, on with the hobby shop story.

Went to a hobby shop with list in hand expecting not to get even Half the stuff I wanted.
The parts were odd Parts that You wouldn't think the shop would keep in stock.
Well, They had every thing but Extra air filters!
They helped me with the problem I had(The main one any ways.. the rest I will wine to you guys bout:hehe: )
They sold me every thing I wanted and never tried to sell me junk I didn't want (This has been a slightly common occurrence when I have gone to hobby shops in the past)
He even asked If I wanted Him to put the screws back in that I just bought.
I bought some wheels for some tires I had laying around and he even recommended the Hpi wheels over the Proline, that alone saved 10 bucks, that may not sound like much, but I had a budget because I have other things I want to buy, and I wanted to stick to it!
Well went to check out and the guy rang up like around 98 bucks and gave me 10% off!
Went to leave with air filter sitting in chassis and the engine and bag in hand, walked out the door to get in the car and a guy sitting at the intersection starts yelling out his car pointing in my direction, well I figured just ignore the guy get in the car and leave.
About 10 minutes down the road I grab my engine out of the bag and realize the air filter isn't there, its not in the chassis and its not in the bag( wouldn't be bad but I don't have 40 bucks to spend on a new air filter and I won't be able to get back to the shop before the bash this weekend)
well, end up turning around following every grandma on the road riding their brakes the entire trip.
Get back to the shop thinking now theres no way I'm going to be able to bash this weekend because of a stupid $40, I have been waiting for for 2 years for this bash( last years didn't work out either!) well I get there and there it is in all its glory, laying on the sidewalk that the guy was yelling and pointing at, well I feel like a complete idiot but I am a happy complete idiot!

I can not say this enough, try out your LHS, just because a couple of them are worthless doesn't mean that one is as worthless as the rest of them! Support your Local hobby shop!

Well if you did decide to last half of this boring post, sorry for the long read again! And thanks for your help!

Expect to see a video with in the next week or so!

Update: This thing is going to be a beast!
Just during break in you could tell the thing was just begging to be opened up and let go!
I finished most of the break-in today in the dark driving up and down my driveway, so it should be finished tomorrow!!
