Hello all

I recently tried a OS #8 in my G3.0 on my firestorm 10T and the result was AMAZING! The engine now is much more responsive and goes much futher into the RPM band than the stock plug supplied by HPI.

Why is there such a performance increase over the HPI one? I know the HPI one is a cold plug and the #8 is a medium but surely it shouldn't effect it that much. I think tomorrow I might try the #8 in my stock savage x engine and see if that has the same effect.

Glow plug choice is a pretty significant factor in engine tune. Selecting the proper glow plug essentially determines the timing of the ignition. The O.S. #8 should work fine in your Savage. is that a .21 size engine? I'm not familiar. Just don't go overkill with running a plug that's too hot for your engine. That will cause the timing to advance too far and is not good for engine components as the combustion will start occuring too early before the piston is mechanically ready to return to it's downstroke. Generally speaking you run hot plugs like A3's in small engines like .12's. Medium plugs are for .15's to .21's and cold plugs are for .25's and bigger. Now you can go a little bit either way such as running a hot plug in a .15 engine or a medium plug in a .28 depending on atmospheric conditions.

Just keep in mind that the OS #8 is a short plug, about 2-2.5 threads shorter then a standard plug. It will lower the compression slightly which will lower your torque in the bottom end. I have run the Mc Coy plugs for years and they work great. I would try a MC 59, it should work great in that .18.

Ah ok thanks for the input,

I was forced to try the OS plug in the stock savage x 4.6 engine because the other one died and the #8 was all I had. I was happy with the results but the performance was not increased as far as the G3.0 in my firestorm, however it killed a problem I had with the other glow plug so I was very happy.

I'll also keep and eye out for the McCoy's plug however I'm not sure they are actually imported into Australia as i have never seen them in any hobby shop I've been in, I might grab some in my next tower/amain order I do.
