I want to change the radio from the TQ3 to my Futaba. I understand what the opti drive unit is for, but what happens if you don't use it? Can you set it up to operate with out it like in my T max and what will it change? How about shifting will this make it a forward only situation? Any help is welcome.

You don't need it, it's a safety device to prevent the tranny from shifting if you select the shift while it is still in motion (either forward or reverse). I use a 3PM and never could program the Optidrive how it said you were supposed to but it still worked fine. It's nothing but a wheel chock, IMO but if you do the FOC you won't have to worry about it.

jet mech are you trying to say to make all of the wiring hookups but not worry about the programming? Or just take out the opti drive altogether?

The programming never worked when I used a different rx/tx. You can also run without it just becareful when you shift.

Take out the optidrive all together. It will have no effect on the transmissions ability to go into reverse.
