Opti-drive?

Whats the deal with Optidrive? Do I need it for reverse to work? What if I don't have it? Is that why there is extra space in the Rx box and has that black removable piece?

Erm opti drive means yohr gearbox can drive in foward and reverse. If you have the stuff. Others say they prefer to switch to a forward only conversion because it strenghtens up the drivetrain and removes alot of clutter. Each to their own. Does your gearbox have a wire or a push rod coming out of the front of it

Opti drive is the defination of reverse being there. No optidrive no reverse.
Do you want reverse?

Opti drive is just an electrical unit that senses if the transmission primary shaft is in motion. When in motion it will/should not allow you to switch from forward to reverse to keep from damaging the transmission. It also serves as a low voltage failsafe when everything is working properly.
You dont need it for reverse to work, you just have to be careful not to switch gears (forward/reverse) when the truck is moving.

Can I get optidrive or do I need a different tranny. It would be nice to have that failsafe because I plan on letting friends drive the Tmaxx. I don't want someone to accidentally hit the reverse switch. I see no wires coming from the tranny so thats why I assume I need a different one. But I certainly have reverse because I have the reverse servo and everything.

If you have the black tranny you can not use optidrive,all others either have it already or it has been removed and replaced with the little black cover
