Hi guys, i would appreciate your opinions of the 3 speed mod, especially from those of you who have it, but all opinions are considered. With stock gearing (15 tooth clutch bell) and s-25 would the acceleration and top speed increase drastically? It says that third gear is 10% taller than stock second and first is 10% shorter than stock. Is it worth the time or money? I am a basher slowly converting to a racer. Thanks.

I had it on a 4.6, IMO it was worth it. It is a pita to adjust but once it's set you will enjoy it. I wouldn't say it's a drastic change but it is noticeable.

Yeah, i figured the adjustment would be a pain when even a two speed can be tricky sometimes. I could probably handle it though. Thanks guys. Any other opinions? Lets hear em!

It depends on the track you are gonna be on if you are going to race if it is tight I wouldn't get it because you have better ACCELERATION and TORQUE in LOWER GEARS, but if it is a open, fast track get it because it will have higher top speed.

I guess I'll side with the minority and say that IMO the 3-speed is unnecessary. Run a strong motor with the proper clutch bell/spur gear combo and you will never need the 3-speed.

The first gear spur inside the 3-speed is still a plastic gear, the 2nd and 3rd spurs are metal. The first and second spurs in the 2-speed are both plastic. All other gears inside both transmissions are metal.

I just reread your post and if your going to race just stick with the two speed and adjust your gearing for your track. The 3 speed is great for bashing regardless of engine size but I wouldn't use it for racing.

I love my 3 speed, but I wouldnt think on a track youd even a straight away enough for the 3 speed. But as a basher, the 3 speed is pretty sick.
