What do you guys think? With skyrocketing fuel prices, talk of "green" initiatives and carbon footprints, does anyone see an end in sight for our nitro hobby and gas powered rigs (ie. baja) in the future. I would like to think that there are enough of us still interested in the sport to justify keeping it all around. You know the government, they dont like us to have too much fun though!

Well said. You should live in britain £1.39 a litre for petrol and 18 for half a gallon of big bang 20% . Still wont stop me from bashing my t maxx tho :)

That is a good question. When I raced motocross I would hear rumors about the EPA and other environmental groups trying to put a stop to our sport because of concerns over pollution. I hope that issue stays away from our hobby! I wish the government didnt try to ruin ALL of our fun.

Yeah, we are paying $1.35 canadian per liter of gas here or $ 5.13 US per Gallon for our vehicles and I just bought 1/4 gallon of nitro from the LHS for $18. That is fricken highway robbery...but your right, we will do what ever it takes to keep in the hobby.

I don't think it's going to be an issue in the very near future, but in our life times it definitely will. I actually bought the Baja because I missed the sound of my nitros, but not the $52 a gallon fuel. I've had the Baja for about a month now, still haven't finished the first gallon of pre-mix, that cost me $6 total with good oil and premium gas. Gas is about to hit $4 here again for regular unleaded, time to dig the bike out and get it ready for warm weather and 55mpg back and forth.

You guys have cheap gas down there! Yeah, my buddy has a baja and that thing is awesome on fuel!!!! But they are very expensive.

At least your not paying for diesel! If gas hits 4.00 a gallon, I'm scared to know what diesel will hit! :whhooo:

Fortunately fuel prices have stopped rising here for now. Diesel is sitting at 3.69. Yay for state fuel.

That's kinda like asking if Ferrari will stop making 500 horsepower 12 mpg fun seats.

I don't think so.

People are still paying $5.00 + for a pack of cigarettes. People will always pay for they want.

There is also new legislation for the FAA to try to regulate model aircraft flights that's in discussion right now.

The price for regular unleaded is close to $4.00 here, the last gallon of 20% Top Fuel that I bought was about $35 I think. Prices are high, but I don't think the hobby's going anywhere anytime soon.

Gas here in Manitoba, Canada, is $1.12/litre for reg. I need premium in my car and its about $1.24/litre.

The hobby itself will probably not be going anywhere, your right, I guess what I was getting at is will there be a push for "cleaner" hobbies in the near future such as electric rc's. I once was a smoker and I would have sold all of the clothes that I was wearing just to have 1 cigarette...we will all pay just about anything to have the things that we enjoy, but when are the people with the power going to try and regulate how much we can have of the things that we enjoy. Price be damned, I am going to stick with nitro for as long as I can, just trying to stir the pot and see if anyone else is thinking the same as me. Here in canada, those in power will try to "limit" us in certain ways. When I owned my ATV, trails would close very regularly because of "noise" levels and "pollution". Just saying there may come a time when the same happens to us rc enthusiasts.

In my mind, it doesn't make sense to start regulating nitro and gas R/Cs. In comparison to cars, they don't add much pollution. I think that we'll start seeing regulations of what kinds of cars you can drive before we'll see regulations as to what kind of R/Cs you can use.

All of the offroad stuff here closed long ago. But not because of noise and pollution, but due to general dumbassery and the lack of the local offroad community to ban together as a group large enough to have a decent political voice.

I love the sound of all the two stroke RC's, whether nitro or gas, it just adds another element to the excitement for me. I missed the ring a ding ding of my two stroke bikes too, so it sort of fills that void also.

This is by far not a rational argument, but when Champion Paper an hour away from me stops pumping billions of micrograms of crap into the air every day, then I'll start to worry about what little carbon footprint our RC's and other various toys put out.
