Hi All,

I would really like to get better at wrenching on my Maxx, I know the best way would be just to do it. I wouldn't mind having a on-line tutorial or guide on the tear down of a T-maxx/ Anyone know of anything out there.

I have done google searches etc to now avail.

Thanks

sLY

I'm pretty sure that if you remove all the screws, it'll pretty much come apart..........:jk:

Honestly though I don't know of a site that has complete teardown instructions. Perhaps we need to be the first. With the minds we have here, we could have quite a manual...

A bit off topic but...
May I suggest getting a new screw set if you are going to do a complete tear-down.

You will be amazed at the difference it makes not only in strength but in the speed and ease of working on your truck in the future.

he's right you know. You are screwed with those stock screws espically after a couple of rebuilds, and if you have any aluminum good quality screws are a must.

Quit beatin around the bush... Just do it.... lol
Look at it as a challenge.... It's really pretty simple, you'll see...

If you're tearing it apart and adding hopups, your hopups will normally come with new screws.

Click on my sig and look under the "Hardware" header for RCNT-member-favored sources for hardware.

I wouldn't call that off topic. But yes i did recently purchase a screw kit for both my Maxx and my losi. I am looking to tear that whole thing apart and clean it and put it back together for the winter.

Ill just rip the bastard apart and if i have any trouble Ill call imbroken.... Its good to have a brother in law that actually knows what he is doing. If there isn't a computer connected to it I'm a bit of a spazz LOL

Msly can build one hell of a fancy , custom computer with neon, switches, fans etc. - but hasn't tried wrenching on his Maxx..
Go figure... Just dont try to put that neon on your Maxx...lol

MSly - just think of your Maxx as a puppet and all will be fine!

Best advice I can give is:

With tires off;

Remove the eninge, tank, fuel lines, exhaust and electrics first.

Remove the front end completely (4 screws)

Remove the rear end completely (4 screws)

Remove the tranny

Working on the front/rear ends seperate is a good idea for first time. Tranny always is done alone on a table by istelf so you dont mix parts up. Same with diff's.

Good luck Puppet Master!

The way Christian described it is the way I do it when I want to tear down my maxx. I also use some paper plates so I can keep everything seperate.

Dont forget to either mark your diff cases or take a picture so you know the orientation. Putting diffs on backwards will seriously piss you off!!!!!

You speak the truth. The first time I tore my maxx apart I put my rear diff in backwards. After I realized what I did and what I needed to do to correct the problem I said to hell with it and walked away. Some times walking away is the best approach. :)

At first I used to use zip lock bags and mark them with a Sharpie as to what they went to. Same basic idea as the paper plates. It really helped me at first. Now I can rip any of my vehicles apart 100% put everything into a pile and assemble it.

Mine's in a million pieces right now. The best thing you can do is run the screws back into the piece they came out of after you take a piece off. There's tons of parts scattered around but no loose screws.

Another tip for the first timer is to take a detailed photo of each part before removing it. This will come in handy when reassembling it. Its the little things that will get you like does the turnbuckle get mounted on the top or the bottom of the steering block? It does make a difference. Also be sure to replace any parts that look worn. This is also a great time to replace your bearings and install a FOC. These are two of the most time consuming projects.

Have fun and don't be afraid to ask for help. I do want to see the Neon under-lighting photos when your done.

Yeah, that turnbuckle thing got me before, too.

Knowing what does and doesn't have to come apart helps, too. Here's how to take out the steering.

As long as somebody doesn't walk over to my work area and start twisting the turnbuckle ends I'm in good shape.

Well Thanks for all the tips, tricks and Ball busting LOL..

I certainly will be taking a crack at tearing the puppy down this winter.

I have my neon and puppet ready to go LOL
