hey I was just working on my savage SS; taking off a roto-start I bought and putting back on a pull-start, and when I took the roto-start backplate off, the one-way fell out and I'm not sure which way it goes back in. The same thing happened when I put the roto in, but I didn't know it  Also it brought to mind; what do I need to do to maintain it. How do I clean the one-way and what lubricant do I put on it?

thanks,
Mlb

It can only go two ways so it on and see which way works. It should slip as the pull start goes back in. As far as cleaning it blaast it with wd-40.

It only turns one way. Put it on, turn it by hand, and see if it locks in the direction the engine should turn. There's usually writing, or numbers on one side of it. When it's in the right way, make note of whether the writing faces the engine or faces out. That makes it easier the next time.
Slosh it around in denatured alcohol, rubbing alcohol, brake cleaner or carb cleaner, then blow it dry. Do that a few times. Also clean the shaft.

Ya DA is like the best thing to clean anything on rc car.

and cheap too, I'll never pay $6 a can for nitro cleaner again!
