Ok, I will no longer debate the one way bearin gfailure with the roto start. The only thing I would like to know is why the roto start is any harder on the bearing than the pull start? I realize it spins a lot faster with the starter but you would think the bearing would take it better than it does. My Savage is tabled in pieces again and the extra bearing i had turned out to be the wrong one so another trip to the hobby shop. I think I'm going to try the pull starter, I never even used it yet. This bearing lasted about three months.
 
my one-way lasted for about a week... i bought a new one... it is doing good. My step dad bought one and it has lasted a long time. Doug
 
It's the ammount of raw torque that the roto throws at the bearing that kills it. The pull start is much mellower on 1 ways, since it doesn't just keep grinding, catching and slipping all the time when you're trying to start it.
 
Well the people I’ve seen using the roto start seams to be using them for a very long time when the engine not fires up right away. The most people with a normal pull start pull it for maybe 10-15 times and if the engine has not started they begin checking the glow plug starter, glow plug, engine flooding (can feel it in the pull start), and air filter. Then when they get the roto they just keep turning the engine for minutes before checking if anything could be wrong, and then crashes the one way
 
I was thinking too that it has to do with the way the starter just keeps cranking if the engine doesn't start right up. The problem is that I don't have a primer on the tank any longer (it leaked air and a new one was no better). I'm affraid the pull starter will eat up my hands more than the roto eats up bearings. Getting the fuel to the carb is the biggest issue. HPI should do some rethinking on the bearing, they made the starter. I may call them and see what they have to say. I don't have a receipt for the bearing so I'm probably out of luck with that but I don't really have anything to lose but the cost of a call.
Generally the engine strats up pretty easy once fuel gets flowing. I'm open for ideas here.
 
Tried and true buggy method: hold you finger over the exhaust tip, give the PS a couple of tugs till the fuel hits the carb. Most (if not all) buggy tanks are without a primer button, and that's about the easiest way to prime the carb.
 
I think it will take more than just a few pulls to pressurize the tank and push the fuel to the carb and not slow pulls either. I'm just lookin back to when I had a pull start on my RC10GT and that sucked. I got more blisters than engine starts. Non-pull and starter box is much easier. They should have designed the Savage to accept a starter box.
I'd like to come up with a more dependable starting system for the Savage.....
 
True. The only time I have any real trouble with that priming method is when there's some old fuel in the filter and the methyl has evaporated leaving just the oil. But after a few (vigorous) tugs it eventually cooperates.

Like I've said in a few other posts, I have a roto and it's not on an engine right now.
 
I have never had to pull more then 4-5 times to get the fuel moving to the carb on my buggy. Usually by the 5th pull, when I release my finger from the stinger tip I can hear the pressure escaping from the pipe.

Hmmm, but I dont have a fuel filter on my buggy though either so could be why I get it moving quickly. My fuel tank has a foam element in the channel to the nipple so i figured I didnt need one.

Well i had a PS in the start, broke that in a day, went to the LHS got a Rotostart, NOW THAT LASTED 1 DAY, and now when i go back to him he shows me that in my Picco .26 engine theres metal sharpnel in the exhaust and up in the ENGINE!!!!!!!! :flaming: :flaming: :flaming: , I give up, i reckon if i dont get a new engine with the Warrenty i sellin :angry:

Hope you can get a new engine but in worse case they maybe say it because of the rotostart, and the roto start does not official support the picco .26 so they can say it’s not covered by the warranty because you used the roto :( :no_commen
 
I take it you didn't put the 6x12mm bearing on the starter shaft behind the starter nut on the picco 26 before you put the roto on. Do a search on rotostart and picco, Christian has the picco/roto setup and that thread is chock full of the strait dope on this setup.

More than likely, Ofna won't warant that mill, due to the aftermarket roto install.
