Ok so I was out tuning my engine with the body off. Some how I lost control and i flipped the truck, the antenna got caught between the pavement and my RC solutions roll cage, now I have about 1/3 of my antenna left of my $89 Futaba HRS Receiver. can I just solder on a piece of wire the same length or how do I fix this?

eartaker,

I'd recommend replacing the receiver even though it's not a cheap fix. Honestly something as important as the receiver I wouldn't gamble on. Receiver antenna's are usually at it's "peak" length and trying to re-solder it back on is going to change it.

Another alternative, though more expensive is start looking at the spektrum systems. They have a MUCH shorter length antenna, no more worrying about crystals, or dialing in a new channel just turn it on and go!

Wow, I didn't know you couldn't fix the antena. I thought you could replace it with a new piece of wire... as long as it was the same guage and length. Learned something new.

Tom

woodie is right, but in a pinch you can replace the wire. your lhs should carry some. just make sure you get as close as possible to the old length, and be sure to runa quality fail safe just in case.

in the future run a body, and route your antenna out the back of the body like this

Thanks guys, ill rerout my antennas and i'm going to try to replace it. I don't do any racing just bashing, this was my favorite receiver to, it has a built in failsafe for battery and signal for all 3 channels so i'm good on the failsafe.

before you go dropping the dough on a new receiver.

call the manufacturer, beg and plead. offer $10 for a new receiver wire.

hey its cheaper then $90

Since you have an RCS cage, route the antenna underneath the "ribs". That way it is not caught between the cage and pavement.

If you do go Spektrum route, I doubt you will have this problem due to the wire being much shorter. Just follow the binding set up and you will be good to go!!

Glad you are having fun with your truck!!!

You can replace the antenna wire with wire of same gauge and length. It's an easy solder job.

And it will work just the same?

Tom

Yes, it should...but that depends a great deal on your soldering job. Best bet is to get antenna wire from the LHS and/or buy a new receiver.

Yes, it will work the same. You'll get a loss in range if you make it shorter. Having an antenna that is slightly longer does not have a major effect until you double the length of the antenna. Typically this would create an antenna that is too long for practical use.

you can get FUTABA replacement antenna wire from tower hobbies same goes for most of the major radio manufacturers.

replacement antenna wire has been available for at least the last 25 years I had to order one for my old challenger 250 from airtronics/hitech way way back in the day when I ripped mine out of my monster beetle. Ahh the memories.

just buy the futaba replacement and solder yourself (assuming you're decent at it). I've done this and had no problems, once with a Futaba wire and once with a generic piece of wire that was slightly lower gage. The one with the generic wire never worked quite right after that, but well enough for my taste at the time.

I fixed my RX antenna with Futaba wire from Tower Hobbies. It works great.
