I'm having issues with the new (used) Savy. No matter what i do tune wise, i can't get it to grab second gear. When i look in the hole to make the adjustments, i dont see the adjustment screw, and yes i rotated the tranny to find the opening. It also seems like a gear is missing from inside the tranny when i look in the book. From the diagram, it looks like a 2 gear/3 gear 1 gear setup. Is that right or am i reading it wrong?

Thanks

You have the Savage 25 right? Do you have a 2 speed or a 3 speed? If so, might be the one not designed for the Savage X, the Savage X has the easy adjustment hole. The other one doesn't. For the 2 speed, there is 3 gears. Two of them are the ones that are the ones for shifting and the third one is the one that turns the gear below it that leads to the tranny. The gear above it is the one that the engine turns.

Edit: Are you sure you don't see the adjustment screw? It probably could be missing. Did you use a flashlight to see inside better?

How old is the engine? If it has yet to be properly broken it, it may need to be run in. The two speed takes a certain RPM to reach the point to switch gears.s

Remove the rubber plug from the side of the tranny.
Rotate the spur until you see the cutaway section of the gear cluster. Hold the spur gear in place now.
Rotate the front or rear center dogbone to get the 2-speed hub to rotate until you find the second gear adjustment.

Follow Scrogg's suggestion. If you can't find it, it came out. It might be laying in the bottom of the trans case along with a tiny spring.
If that's the case, you're not stuck in 1st, you're in 2nd.

Thanks, I'll check that out in a few minutes. However no-one answered how many gears are actually in the tranny. When I look at the diagram, it looks like 6 gears total. From the spur, on that post is a double gear. In the middle of the tranny it looks like there should be 3 gears, and finally the bottom single drive gear that rotates the drive shafts. That sound right?

For the two speed transmission, there is a total of 6 gears inside the tranny case. So yeah, you're correct.

I thought so. Then there is a gear missing because there are only 5 in the case. I'll take pictures of it later and post them here. Hopefully someone can help identify which gear I'm needing.

Well I just took the tranny completely apart and I stand corected. Sorry everyone but all 6 gears are in fact there, the one I just couldnt see until i took them all out. I did find the adjustment screw for the shift change and tomorrow I'm hoping to get it dialed in better. Thanks again and I'm very sorry for being a pain.
