hey,
people PLEASE help me. Today i decided to tak ea part my savage   . I successfully took of the engine and skid plate and that stuff under it. Neways, i did it no problem put it back together. However, now, there is DEFINATLY something not right with the spur gear. It doesn't turn like it used to and it makes a freaky noise. What do i do?

Odds are you have not set the mesh properly. If the engine is too close to the spur gear, it will bind the gears. The noise is the sound of the gears "grinding" together or rubbing on each other. How did you set the gear mesh? Or more importantly, did you set the gear mesh or just slap the engine on, push it over and tighten the screws down? If you did the latter, then you need to re-set the mesh.

LOL...that is kind of what I figured. You need to loosen the bolts that hold the engine to the truck. DO NOT remove the bolts...just loosen them enough that you can move the engine back and forth.

Then you need to take either a piece of paper or a small baggy and slide it between the clutch bell (the gear on the end of the engine) and the spur gear (the big gear on the tranny).

Once the paper of plastic is between the two gears, push the engine over to compress the paper/plastic between the gears.

Now tighten up the bolts that hold the engine to the truck.

Pull the paper/plastic out. The gears should spin freely and the noise should be gone. Note the spur gear will only spin freely in one direction. The other direction the tranny actually tries to turn the wheels...

oks so loosen bolts, stick baggy in the middle, push engine over now and tighten bolts and its fixed or is it not that simple?

Sounds like you've got it. Make sure to remove the baggy when you've re-tightened the bolts.

Let us know how it goes...g'night.

Yeah, leaving the baggy in there could prove interesting......:w00t:

I found that a thicker piece of paper works the best and tighten the screws diagonally, I use one of those paper pieces that wraps around silverware at like IHOP or something similar.

YES!!!!! i have perfected meshing the gears. Also, i have just finished my h1 hummber body. Its all black with the windows cut out and windshield cut out and the back window is in except for the head cut out i made. I used a dremal and man it looks good. I hope to be getting some pics. Trying to run my savage today was living hell tho. I had to mess with low speed, high speed, and idle. Talk about a day!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Good to hear that all is well. Can't wait to see the pictures.
