Anyone care to give their 2 cts? I'm new to the buggy world. is not the Ravenger how about someone pointing me in the right direction for a RTR buggy. Dont plan on racing just bashing. Needs to very durable & parts must be easy to get.

What are you looking to spend? The ravager is very new so I can't really comment on its durability, but the hyper series are common and can take a beating. they go for around $400 or so.

I would say go to your LHS (if you have one) and see what they sell for parts. Then you can either buy the car there or shop around online for a price. Don't ask them for their opinion because they are usually biased to what they sell.

Yes definatly. The hyper 7 pbs or pcr is a great ride for right around $400, most shops carry parts for ofna. Another is the Sportwerks mayhem but most shops don't carry parts. There is also the XTM Xterminator not sure on price, but you can only get parts at www.hobbypeople.net unless you have hobby people in your area.

A few of my friends mentioned a buggy from GS believe it was the storm. I think the only reason they wanted me to by the storm is that is what my LHS sells & they work there. HA HA.
Can anyone tell me more about the Hyper 7 ?

I had one, and recently sold it to another member of this forum. It ran strong the whole time I had it. I put prob about7 gallons or so through it and only broke a few things. They are built for both the racer and basher in mind. Nice beefy plastic parts with plenty of metal where its needed. The engine is strong but can be a pain to tune at times. The stock radio and equipment isn't the best, but it works. If I wasn't so much into racing I would get another one.

I take it you're speaking of the hyper 7. Sounds like this might be what I'm looking for.
I dont really care about the radio & equipment. I have a JR XS3 & servos, that i removed from my dirt oval truck. So the stock radio will be the first thing that goes.
What size engine is in the Hyper 7 series?

i bought vb's pcr.. its great!! built like a tank!! the arms are beafyer than the savage arms!! runs great and handles like its on rails... hyper 7 is great and parts are everywere.. you will NOT be disapointed with the hyper

Is it possible to swap the .21 to something bigger w/ not so much headache?
If so what are some possible replacements? I will probably keep the .21 till I get used to running a buggy, but eventually will swap out for more cubes.

If you want to race at ROAR events you ca't run anything larger than a .21....if that's not a concern you can put pretty much any big Block engine in w/ lil effort.......check out the wasp .28 for a cheap BB w/ high RPMs.....

Nope, not only hobbypeople stores carry xtm, one of my old hobby shops in IL did, and I don't think hobby people has a little 'ole mom&pop shop in colinsville, IL (aka, HICKTOWN).....

But ya, the hyper 7 is a great buggy, it can take a lot of abuse and such. But if you want an engine bigger than the stock .21 I have to say that the sportwerks .26 would be a good engine. It's only $130, it's easy to tune, keeps a tune very well, and makes a lot of power. But, if you are looking to race, I say stick w/ the stock .21 and maybe get it modded later on if you want....and get a new exhaust pipe, that thing on there is jus a POS, but it gets th job done..

What diff oils? I have heard that if you dont have the correct weight in the center diff, most of the power gets transfered to the front wheels. Would I need to change the oil in any of the diffs if I bought a Hyper 7? Since I'm new to this buggy thing I'm looking to get as much info from those who know.

I'm runnin the stock hyper carb on mine, and it seems to be fine for me tho...

anyway, most seem to run like a 5-7-1/2 k diff oil set-up on the hyper. I'm runnin a 5-5-1 I want to switch to 5-7-2 tho...

And you don't need to switch right away, but it is highly reccomended, it makes a huge difference in the performance of the car.

I believe they come w/ grease in the diffs as a rtr....you should change that right away...especially since you should tear it down and loctite all screws anyway.....

yep, I have a hyper pbs and you need to go over the screws with loctite. If not that, then run it when breaking in engine and then check screws...there will be several that are loose. For the diff...I would suggest at least putting some oil in the center diff. With grease in the center, the fronts unload a lot and you won't get good acceleration.

If you buy the hyper, may as well pick up a screw set for it because no matter how careful you are, you will lose a screw or two. Oh, the hyper 21 8 port is a real PITA to break in initially and the carb settings are way off (too rich) so don't be surprised if you need to adjust the carb initially to get it started.

I agree with everyone here; the hypers are tanks and they work great. That sportwerks .26 makes great power for $130 too.
