It was a nice warm sunny day today - the first time since the start of this year. I had this bright idea to go out and run the Savage also for the first time this year. Found a nice empty parking lot and setup shop, I had the Savage going with a little tweaking and all was good. It ran pretty bad, but was expected to since it hadn't been ran for 3-4months now so it needed tuned. Well I just replaced the pull start right before I stored the truck, this was now the trucks 3rd pull start for the 8port. So while starting the truck today I was extra careful not to pull very hard or out very long. In fact I didn't pull much more then 6inches.

Didn't matter cause guess what, the damn pull start is broken again. The internal spring is busted as the cord won't wind back up, so now it just dangles. I've contacted the Ofna and they've more or less said in not so many words that they replace one pull start for free and you're out of luck from there on out. Understandable, however at nearly $30 a pop I'm nearly spending more money on pull starts then I did the engine.

So now to my question, is there an adapter for the Roto-start which will work on the Ofna 8port? I've heard of one for the Ofna .26, but before I sold the 8port for a .26 I wanted to make sure there wasn't one for the .21

The back plate is completely different on the 2 mills. I have both, and the bolts on the Hyper are alot closer (smaller diameter hole pattern) than the .26 or the 21bb. Matter of fact, the hole pattern on the Picco 26 and the 21BB are the same, it's the 1 way that is different. the "adapter" for the picco 26 is really just a 6mm bearing (I think, Chris would know for sure) that keeps the starter shaft positioned correctly.

If you're putting it in a Savage, I'd go with the 26. More torque, trust me, I've run both in mine.

If you are talking 26's the ofna picco will accept the standard roto start back plate with no modifications. There are back plates for the roto start that are available but I just used the one from the BB yesterday and it worked out pretty sweet. Now I just need the black low speed needle and I will be set I hope. Yeah If I was having 8 port problems like that I wouldn't be looking to replace the pullstart at all.

WoodiE, you can send me the pull start with my new fuel line covers (hint, hint) and I'll rebuild the pull start for you. I do that often enough, and repairing the spring isn't as difficult as you might think. Let me know. Otherwise, expect to spend about $25-30 to replace the pull start...or more for the rotostart.

hi,
i have the hyper 21 8 port
and have broken 3 pullstarts i put a new one on pulled it once and it was screwed so i just bought a doughnut starter for it, i was going to by the rotostart but it wouldnt fit

I'm gonna go against the grain on this one, but I'm still on my first PS on teh Hyper 8. It's a bit ragged, but no problems so far. The 1 way needs replacing, but that's to be expected. I musta got one of the OFNA reject PS's

You aren't going against the grain here. I am working my original pull start, aslo. Just had to rebuild it once.
