8 rotors almost seems like overkill, but I bet this thing could carry heavier camera equipment.

Yeah, or two Dominoes large pizzas and a 2lt of Mug Root Beer... Smile

I'd like to see that copter at night with some crazy LED pattern lights.

Yeah, it's got such a huge base platform

Heck yeah, you could likely figure out a reasonably light weight power source
& even put some flashing neon on that bad boy...

Flying is fun

A very nice model. Thanks for sharing ChasCS.....This is a nicely designed and would seem a very unique. It's really a fun and nice to see. I really like it. These are the rarer ones. I do find it quite interesting and considered it as a new era 's new chapter of development.

I'm enjoying my flying lessons and looking forward to buying or building a majestic quad myself, though perhaps four motors will suffice...

Hexacopter and octocopters have the benefit (depending on setup and flight controller) that if a motor / ESC fails, you have enough others that you can fly back home safely. On a quad, if one fails, you're now in control of an RC lawn dart (some may not be old enough to remember these), but basically it's going down. That being said, for some of us, the initial cost to build and higher maneuverability of a quad outweighs the risk of electronic failure.

That makes sense, I never knew

I didn't know an RC model with higher than 4 rotors could still function, if one motor goes down. That's a benefit I had never considered. Thanks.

Definitely old enough, I have an old collectable set of lawn darts here.
Dust collectables... I can see why they were banned!!
