I have a Picco .21 that is crapping out (probably air leaks) for a T-maxx. I am looking for a replacement engine. I was told the O.S. .18 TM was a a powerful drop in and is easier to tune and maintain. Any idea what a good price should be for one of these. I have seen $190 - $230. Any help is appreciated.

you can get the O.S 18 at tower for 89 bucks. However that is for the older tmaxx the .15 version that uses a rotary carb.

I think you can get it in a slide carb.

How long have you had the Picco .21 I just bought one.

How long have you had this Picc0 21? Have you tried looking for air leaks. Try looking for air leaks in your fuel lines and fuel tank first. Then look to the enigne, your carb neck and backplate are great places for and air leak to happen. Also check that your plug is in properly and snug but do not overtighten.

What symptoms are you seeing when you say it is running like crap?

The Picco .21 maxx engine is a slide carb. I havent seen many engines with roto carbs... There are only a few... Almost none when you get up to .21+ engines.

Jon....I can get it started it idles fine....I can rev it..no problem....When I WOT there is hesitation. I tried to lean it, no changes. Was not sure if it was bogging or just lose of compression

Does it move? Have you checked your slipper clutch? How is the engagement?

Yes it will move, how ever when I try to WOT it struggles..The exhaust sounds muffled (best description I can offer) How can I tell if it is the slipper clutch (still new to this, sorry for the questions)

does sound like your running lean on the HSN ,but if your looking for a good cheap drop in (but need to do a little work) the OS .18 CVRX is a excellent choice ,and yes it has a slide card the 11G to be exact ,and this thing is the best bang for the buck IMO
here is a link for the process to install it

and for the slipper thing ,it will rev like wild fire if it is set too loose just like a 1:1 when a clutch goes out
hope this helps
take care

If your still interested in a TM I would check ebay. I've seen some pretty good prices on there for new stuff. I paid $175 for mine!

If you have the older tmaxx .15 you can get the O.S .18 with a slide carb or a rotary carb.

If your engines sounds muffled at WOT Hmmmm Hmmmm! I would take it out of the truck clean it really good. Take it apart, and get silicon grease (not silicone) and redo all of the places where air could leak. Back plate, and carb rubber o ring probably needs replaced.
