Been searching, but can't get the particulars on the right flywheel and taper collet for this combo. I know I need a different collet, but can someone point me to a direct manufacturer/part number so I can go down to the hobby store and find it.

I guess I can take the motor and flywheel with me, just looking to see if anyone on the board knows this one off hand.

Thanks,

robc:)

Use the collet that AE gives you along with the AE flywheel for your type of engine (pull or nonpull). My brother and I have gone through 2 OS engines (threaded shaft nonpull and pullstart)), an RBV12(sg crank nonpull) and a Novarossi NS12S3A1(sg crank, nonpull). Never had a problem with the collet or flywheel that Associated gives. Only thing is that when you look at the mesh of the clutchbell to the spurs, you might notice that the pinion is a little bit set back. Serpent has a shim kit that allows you to place shims behind the collet to move it forward so you have 100% of the spur in-line with the pinion. I wound up using 3 shims from serpent to line up the spur and pinion.

Who told you that you need a different collet and why? What problems are you experiencing? I'm just curious since I have been running an NTC3 for over a year and had no probs till I had to have a shaft cut in order to be used.

It's a Factory Team TC3 Kit (no engine, no tires, the usual). I purchased a Picco XP12 engine. The collet (taper bushing) that goes between the flywheel and engine that was provided by AE FTKit is a slightly larger diameter for the Picco shaft (it would wobble around). However, the collet that came with the Picco fits the shaft but is a little too big for the AE flywheel (OD and length).

AE has identified this and says "go to Trinity/Picco and get the right collet and flywheel", but that's it. Can't really find the specifics for the "right Trinity/Picco collet and flywheel."

I appreciate your response. I'm just going to take the engine and flywheel/clutch assembly in to the hobby shop.

I'll post my findings for future searchers.....

thanks again.

The collet for the HPI .12 units will fit as well IF it's a little snug that's fine. If you use a metal file to wedge in the "split" just enough to make it passed the thread and seat on the shaft, you will be fine. After that, use the AE flywheel. The flywheel will cinch it's way on to the collet.

As you stated, if you're not sure take it to the hobby shop. At least that way if there's something wrong, they will be the one's to blame.
