NTC3 Diff Oil/Fluid?

Ok, I'm in the middle of tearing down my NTC3 to switch out chassis and put on the carbon upgrade kit. Anyway, I got the diff case torn apart and noticed that it was relatively greaseless in there.

---I wanted to know what (fluid/oil/grease) you guys are running in your diff cases?

Are you using Diff Oil or just using some type of bearing grease. I have some 6K Diff Oil left over from my savage. I was thinking about putting some of this in the diff case. Not too much, since the case isn't really totaly sealed, but enough to give the gears some lubricant.

If it isn't really sealed then I would suggest against doing this. I kept the grease!

The NTC3 doesn't take diff fluid. The kit says to use a black grease that came with the kit. I prefer to use white lithium grease. The easiest way to apply it is by placing a small amount where the drive pinion and ring gear meet then turn the wheels (while bracing the gear but allowing it to spin). Don't put too much because the excess will just get slung off the gear. Place enough to coat both gears but also do it in stages so that you can gauge if you have to put more or if there is sufficient amounts alrady in there.

Man, I need to get an owner's manual. That's one of the prices for buying used stuff. I have some 1:1 Hi-Temp Wheel Bearing Grease. Would this be just as fine?

that would be fine. Just make it a habit to regrease at leat once a month and rebuild the diff every other week if you drive the car frequently.

You didn't say if you had the version 1 or 2 NTC3. EVerything on these 2 versions is identical, except for the version 2 rear end. This is the manual for the version 1.

Buth thre is diff oil from Associated. When to use it?

It's not used in the NTC3 differentials. Only oil I used in my kit is shock oil. The diffs are not sealed. There's no gasket or o-ring in there.
