I have been switching between the 2 and 3 shoe clutches for my ntc3 for about a month now and alternating between the black and bronze springs. All in all, i'm not too impressed with the performance of either.

Are there any other alternative clutch systems for the NTC3? I know that there is a centax clutch by Trinity available, but isn't that for sg cranks?(correct me if I am wrong). Who else makes clutch systems?

At the present moment, I am using an OS .15 cv-r (short shaft).

K factory makes a centax clutch for the ntc3. Although I think it won't accept the standard factory team gears...you have to use some other gears...dunno what kind though.

Why aren't you satisfied with the stock clutch? Is it slipping too much? I'm running the standard two shoe with at the stiffer springs and have no slipping.

For some reason, I'm going through clutch shoes like there's no tomorrow. Wearing down, slipping. I remove the glaze and it's fine for maybe 10-17 tanks then it starts slipping again. Changed to brand new shoes with new springs and still the same. By 10 tanks, I canhear it slipping again.

I dunno what's wrong. Drive line is not binding in anyway. Spur and pinions have very good mesh. (I use the paper check method and checks out fine). I'm not dragging the brake. Tried both springs (black and bronze). I am at my wits end. I have no idea why it's eating clutch shoes. Did everything except going with aluminum shoes.

The os 15 cv-r is not an overly powerful engine. I don't drive it excessively hard. I even tried playing with gears, thinking that the torque was too much, so I geared down for a higher speed gearing instead of high torque. Same thing! almost tempted to bring it back down to the 12 cv-rx that I have just to see what may happen.

EDIT: Thanks for the info on K-factory. I just checked their website and they do make one for my shaft as well as sg. According to the website, it can be used with the stock clutchbell and gears. I will call them in the AM.

That's amazing...you know, I seriously have NEVER had any problems with my clutch shoes. My novarossi does some of the most amazing launches you can ever see...and i've never experienced the clutch slipping.

Hell i'm probably over a gallon worth of runtime on the clutch shoes, and they're still perfect.

That's the one think I never understood, everyone says to get the three shoe clutch setup, because of better launches, but I launch fine the way it is...I dunno, maybe i'm just lucky, or maybe YOU'RE unlucky...lol

I like my 2 shoe also i think id have way to much punch if i went to 3 shoes. but i never had any clutch problems either must be ur driving style. or u have ur linkages messed up where its holding break get yet the shoes are touching clutchbell.

I run a TC3 with a RB Rody X12

Nothing binds on the drive train. Driving style? Always drive hard, but to go within the first 5 minutes on the first run after installing new shoes, springs, scuffing clutch bell OR installing a new one? Sounds like a gremlin to me. I'll just put it on the shelf for a while. No need to get frustrated over this car. I'll wait till I calm down and run my other cars.

MIP CLUTCH u could try this, i got one last week and it seems to work well on my os .18

is it crap? i dont know. but it works good so far and no visable wear

Yep the MIP or HPI racing clutch like zim linked to are good.I run the HPI, its the same as the MIP on my RS4 3ss with the OS.15cvr-x. Its held up pretty good and is more tunable than the shoe type clutches.

Thanks for the input guys. My clutch issues have been resolved. Turns out the bearings in my rear diff were getting eaten up and binding the drive train causing the clutch to go bad.

I ahve since then, taken out the OS 15 cv-r and made that my spare motor since I have the RB X.12 5 port turbo now as my main engine for the racing circuit up at prospeed raceway in middletown NY. I will be changing to a centax type clutch in the future.
