Hey whats happening.. I'm buying a notebook and I'm looking at a Dell. Are any of you guys here using a laptop and if so what kind... anyone have a laptop with the intel centrino mobile technology.. if so could you let me know what kind and how you like it.. how it works.. just about everything about it...

thanks in advance

id stick with dell or IBM, IBM are a tad more $$ , but as user of Toshiba's/IBM's/Compaq's in a shop environments - the IBM's are the only ones we still use :D

dell usually has killer deals from time to time

It depends what you're getting the laptop for. Is it for school?Work? Well, at least it used to matter. Not really too much difference anymore.

IBM is pretty much top dollar. My brother got one from them. Paid over 2K for it. It was the "top of the line" back then. We all know how that goes in the tech world.

Dell gives a lot of good deals. Especially when they throw in free memory upgrade and DVD/CDR-W combo drives.

I just bought a Compaq Presario 2590 Laptop from compusa 2 weeks ago. They gave the same deal as Dell. 2.66 mobile centrino technology, 40 gig HD and 256 memory, DVD/CDR-W combo drive. The only difference betwee the Dell and Compaq offers was that Dell gave memory upgrade to 512 K but only a regular pentium 4 2.66 chip. Compaq gave the 2.66 Mobile centrino chip but no memory upgrade. Otherwise everything was the same.

I got the Compaq for $949 (after rebate) Dell was offering an almost comprable deal for $899 (after rebates). Do some shopping around. There are great deals now that christmas is coming.

As far as the Mobile Centrino Technology, seems like alot of hype to buy the "latest and greatest."

Well i'm hoping "Santa" bought me a laptop for Xmas, either that or TRD springs for my 1:1...but knowing "Santa", I probably didn't get either...

anyhow, i'm saving for a laptop right now. i've got about a little over $700. When it gets to around buying time, i'll be watching out for a 15% coupon for the system. I think I can keep my price to just around a grand and have a good, fast computer.

Just make sure you stay out of the LHS when something new comes out on the market or if there's an itch in your wallet! Trust me, I KNOW!:smoke:

I have owned both a dell and ibm laptop and I can tell you the IBM is a much better system if you can spend the money. The dell is a great bang for the buck but personally I would wait a while and go with the IBM..

Also one thing I noticed is that no one uses the IBM style mouse nub which it the best, the 'touchpad' like dell, compaq, hp etc all use I find it a total pain in the ass unless you are going to be using it alot on a desk and can hookup an external mouse.

I'm using a pro-star computer. OK OK go ahead with the jokes but it's a good computer. It's part of my schooling it comes with it. So newayz it's 2.4ghz dvd/ cdrw 256mbram and 20gig hard drive. IT works great for what I"m using it for mostly school and stuff like. I have heard toshiba's are the way to go as far as how long the screen will last though. Later

I've had two Dells, admittedly 7 and 5 years ago, they both sucked. Always crashing and suspending once I started adding cameras and Palms etc to them.
Now I run a Compaq Armada, had it about three years and it's great.
I've heard really good things about the IBM's and they seem to be worth the money. If money is an issue I'd recommend Compaq.
