I recently purchased an OS 21tm, new clutch bell & heavy duty slipper. After fitting these parts I proceeded to break in. Firstly the engine would only start with the air filter removed, replacing it while the engine is running would cause the engine to stop. Secondly, when applying throttle the engine, revs would increase but the revo wouldn't move. Does anyone know why this is? Is there a incorrect way of mounting the clutch shoes on the flywheel? Any help would be appreciated, I'm keen as to see how this engine performs in my revo.

Do you have the gear mesh set properly? If it's too tight, it won't spin. The spur gear and clutch gear should spin freely at rest. If not loosen up the motor mount and put a piece of printer paper between the gears and roll it while you press them together. Then tighten it up. Just sounds like you have something binding.

Maybe your new slipper is too loose. See if the spur gear and clutch bell are turning. Your air filter may have too much oil on it, roll it around in a paper towel to remove the excess oil.

Brand new engine the Idle Screw might have been set to far closed. Which would explain that the engine would run without the air filter. The air filter filled with oil will restrict the air flow to the engine.

Idle screw without the air filter installed should be the set to that looks like a credit card width in the open position while you stare down into the carb.

The clutch also uses the slipper clutch to move forward and if the slipper has oil on it or too loose of a setting the engine will wind up and not move the truck forward.

Meshing the engines clutch to the spur gear the best way to adjust this is to use a strip of paper and this will give the proper mesh between the gears. Then feel the gears it should spin freely. Hold the Clutch Bell and feel the gap. A piece of paper when meshing them together will have very little play.

Hope this helps.

What clutch are you using on the engine, standard or a 3 shoe. As suggested in the above couple of posts, check all that & you should be right. I just installed the same engine with a 3 shoe clutch & its all good, although the spur & clutch bell are very close but thats the new clutch sitting further out from the block but it dont rub so its all good. My engine idled pretty good from the start, I did close down the idle gab before installing the engine though & haven't touched it since, but have richened the LSN half a turn & leaned the HSN, seems to be going well so far.

Bet he has a binding problem, it a wonder the engine started, let us know Revomatic

after visiting my LHS i was informed that the one way bearing was in the wrong way. this completely blew my mind because when i removed the ezi start system from the 3.3 i'm sure i pulled it off with out the bearing falling out. maybe my memory isn't what it used to be. anyway i broke it in last weekend and hopefully i'l be able to take it out today after work and get it tuned properly. thanks for all your input guys.

will they even start with the OWB installed backwards?? never ran into that problem.
