Ok as some of you know I have just learned how to set the mesh on my spur gear, well i stripped another and before it happened i noticed it looked like it tooj the top of the teeth and flatened them, i put another on and its starting the same thing, ( I set it as close to before as i could). I will get a pic of this one. My question is, Is the spurr not deep enough into the CB?
 
pic please if you can.. are you using stock cb and spurs?? I've heard of people that use the paper trick but i personaly set it as tight as i can while still alowing it to spin freely..

The wear looks uneven, have you checked to make sure the input shaft on the trans isn't bent?
 
Yeah.. what kind of method are you using to set the mesh? It does look like it was set a little too lose.
 
I was using the paper method, and someone told me to use a thicker peice of paper, so I used double up printer paper..
 
you should be able to spin the setup without it binding it should spin freely with very little noise.. but if you hold the spur and wiggle the cb it shouldnt wiggle much at all..
 
Yeah, there should be a little "click" when you hold the spur and try to turn the clutch bell...
 
Double paper is too thick, use a piece of notebook paper, a single piece. Set your mesh then pull the paper out, if you can turn the gear, and remove the paper without tearing it, you should be good to go.
 
I cut a strip of the plastic bag the spur gear came in. Put the strip between the spur and CB, and squeeze them together as tight as you can while tightening down the engine mount. Pull out the strip and it's good to go.
The only other problem you could be having that would cause this is a slipping clutch. The more it slips, the hotter the CB gets, and it starts to melt the spur. If that's a possibility, take it apart and scuff the shoes and the inside of the CB with fine sandpaper or a green scrubby pad.
 
That doesn't always work because most spurs are out of round by some percent... There is almost always a high or low spot... You should mesh it on the high spot... then spin the spru and see if it spins freely... For some reason, all of my spurs have a high and low spot, even the brand new ones... Maybe it is how it sits on the slipper?
 
I posted the following link CLICK HERE in another thread of yours abot Mesh issues. Did you give it a read and try the method mentioned? If not, I suggest you do so...it might help.
 
I done it with notebook paper, ran around 2 tanks through it with no strippage.
 
What I do is adjust the motor as close to the spur as I possibly can and still feel just a tiny bit of slack. To me, the less the better, however it must be there. You can tell if it's too tight if you hear a sound like a supercharger coming from it. (Almost a high pitch whine)
 
Yeah, you don't want that whining sound... That means that it is too close, and that can cause clutch bell bearing overheating and they can even blow out.
 
I think that I melted my spur gear also. So the causes of this could be the mesh being set too loose or my slipper clutch being too loose?
