are you racing or just a hobbyist?
do you want TOP performance from your vehicles? or do you typically run stock set ups?
What is you expectation of the buggy?

My impression of the 777 line is this:
if you like to upgrade your stuff to make it bulletproof then get the standard 777...if you are racing get the special...even then there are upgrades to do before it is truly raceready......I say if you know you are not satisfied w/ stock performance in your toys (be honest w/ your self) then stay away from the 777 line unless you like haveing a car that is meant for a perfect driver......the K-cars are like ferraris to me...they run really awsome, when they are tuned perfectly and lavished w/ your love.....now I have the XB8 and have compared that to the MBX-5...both are just tanks IMO.......I equate them to good ol muscle cars....they can run like a bat out of hell even when they aren't tweaked perfectly (run better when they are).......love my Xray but unless they get some better pricing soon I'm switching to mugen......
 
I suggest looking at the XTM buggies unless you are racing. Look at my thread in here, you get a lot for the price of less than just the 777 kit. I had a 777 and is not worth it if you are bashing, if you do racing go for the 777, bashing, go for the XTM.
 
I usually like a car that can run great out of the box with minnor changes I am going to be racing and bashing with whatever I get, I expect to have a reliable and fast buggy and I only have Canadian funds so my buget is probable 700$. So would the Xray or the Mugen be inmy price range

Mugen or Xray you would get only the kit and then you would need around 500 dollars more for electronics and a servo and astarter box... Should decide what you really are going to do as there are other rigs that would suit a basher.
 
You not even going to get the kit for Prospec (mugen). I think its 750. Then you need 500 for engine and pipe, 500 for radio equipment, then 200 for extra.


My advice get the Hyper 7 PCRor similar. Throw in decent radio equipment and a NOVA colling head.
 
Can anyone answer my question on the normal MP777 would it be newbie friendly to race with and do so bashing.
 
To start out that would be ok. But you will have to do some mods/upgrades to get it to where you want. Kyosho is a good line, but right now they are having trouble getting parts out to vendors (should be fixted shortly) I have seen mugens (mbx4/5 prospec) ofnas (Hyper 7 pcr, lx pro, and violator) Honestly the mbx5 is the best, but the most expensive. The hyper 7 is a great buggy and for the price I don't think you can beat it. I ran 7 gallons tru it last summer and only broke 1 front a-arm. but this is off the topic...

If your budget is only 750can which is about 600us your not going to be able to get a kit. I would suggest getting an rtr and going from there.

Just like any other Kyosho ride other than the K series you will need to upgrade stuff after a while. The towers look weak. I think to start off it will be fine for you. Then you will start to find out where on the car you will need to improve or upgrade.
 
My buget could be bumped up if I need to I think I will be doing more racing than bashing and what kind of mods/upgrades will be needed. Also would the futaba 3PM be a good radio and what would be a decient engine and pipe. Also is the Xray XB8R as cheap as the basic MP777.
 
the xray is about 740 us. Have you ever had a rc engine before? If not I would suggest getting an OS RG. They range from $100-150 usd and are good reliable engines. Perfect to learn how to tune with. The 3pm is a great radio anything fm would do great. JP1 or jp2 pipe would do good for you with that or any other engines.

For this stuff your looking around $800 us funds. I did not include the price of fuel, and a glow ignitor and any spare parts you might need.

Just giving you a baseline price.

With an rtr modle like the Hyper 7 pcr or the sportworks mayhem (another great racing buggy) you can pick either one up for 440 and 520 respectivly. The only thing with the mayhem is that it comes with a .26 engine and most tracks do not allow more then a .21 in a buggy.
 
So would the mayhem ARR with the .21 and the 3PM and a steering servo would be a better way to go.

I would say yes, people are saying that those mayhems are some awsome buggies. do a search here on rcnt and you should get some impressive answers.
 
Mayhem is a great buggy. Although with the 777 can you use a pull start?
 
The Mayhem RTR comes with a Sportwerks 26 not a 21 but they do have a Sportwerks 21 available. I am suggesting a RTR as well and then getting a better engine. Really, How much is your long term budget? What do you have to spend? The RTR version is good to go. You can just get that and sell the mill to help buy a new race engine. The Radio can be sold as well but the XR3i is a damn good radio to work with. Many options that will come in handy when tuning.
 
But the 3PM is also a great radio and the ARR comes with a .21.
 
Check with the track/tracks you will be racing as to the engine limits in 1/8th scale buggy class. It is true that the "big time" tracks typically limit 1/8 scale engines to .21, but I would say that 80%+ tracks allow larger engines if the came as RTR.

If your track goes by the larger engine as long as it came RTR rule....Then I'm 100% suggesting the Mayhem RTR; Sweet radio is included, hand held roto-start, descent tires....You could race and compete same week it comes in the mail!! You could get the buggy, a gallon of fuel and a glow ignitor for almost exactly $600 US.
