My freind has a t-maxx 2.5 and i can't get the damn thing to run right,it's running 280-290 it cut's out a little when wide open, then i richened it up slightlly now it does it about every other tank,i keep richening it up and the temps not really going down but i need to know what's the max temp it should be running.

Did you richen the lsn on the side of the carb? If you have and you can't bring the temp down I would start checking for an air leak.

exactly.. someone didn't read their manual

he didn't get a manual with his truck,I've richend the lsn and the hsn and it's still running hot,I'm going to check it today and if it's not better than I'm going to tear it apart.thanks for the help.

make sure there isnt a blockage in the carb.. that will make it run lean no matter how rich you set the needles..

alright,I've owned one of these models before and I've never had the problems he's had,so i think ill end up tearing it all apart tonight to check it all out, thanks guys.

Has he replaced the stock head with an aftermarket one? I would highly suggest a new head, prefferably the acncm head. There are a lot of people here that would back up that statement!

Richen it way out, then start coming back lean..thats what I did. Also cut holes in the windshield for air to flow to the head.

I would definately tear apart and check for leaks or internal damage. Changing the head isnt solving the problem, its just finding a temporary fix to a bigger problem.

I dont think you can check for air leaks be tearing apart the engine... You should seal the backplate and carb neck... a few people here have had problems with the hsn housing stripping the carb body.. might want to check that!

Stretched or cracked o-rings are a common problem (Usually have to take apart to notice :boxing: ). Throw some RTV in there if that is the case. (Backplate and carb)

I had a majority of the same problems with my t-maxx intermittently, they started a few tanks after break in, and my temps weren't as high but they were up there. It was totally stock, and EVERYTHING changed for the best when I put the ACNCM head on there. I have leaned it out about 1/4 turn so far over the best tune I could make it have with the stock head running about 255-265*, and it is running at 210* now. I think the head
made the engine a lot less sensitive to minor changes (and errors) in my totally unskilled trial and error tuning, so there is a lot wider range of settings that the motor will still perform well in. Not only that, but it doesn't bog coming into second anymore, has a lot more low and mid-range punch along with top end, and will idle and run forever without stalling. To summarize quickly, spend the money on the head, you won't regret it!

it's got the stock head and I've already got him saving for a new head,I've richened it all the way out and came back in but it's still hesitate though,I'm gonna check for airleaks tonight but I've never had this problem with a maxx before,i also noticed he has a hole in the gas tank, how he managed that,i dunno but do you think that could be part of the problem,it seems to run fine until i get it wide open.

Hole in the tank I believe could cause a lean condition, seal up the hole and think it may fix your problem.

ok ill give that a try,and suggestions one what sealent to use,I'm not sure what will stand against glow fuel

Not sure, Some good expoxy or maybe JB weld. Also the have some stuff used to repair gas tanks on cars they sell at the auto parts store.

alright ill give jb weld a try,is there some kind of deffect with the damn traxxas maxx tanks cause I've heard of more than one of them do this, and this truck is newer, and it's kinda agravating because every time i talk to him he need's new parts for this truck because there crap.

buy a new tank just for fun. (about $12 from you LHS) new fuel line, new fuel filter, definitely new head the stock one sucks. The new engine I have already had the racing head. I noticed a world of difference in temps. Technically speaking I could do for an upgrade.
