I'm planning on getting a savage .25 RTR. does the rtr come with a roto start, if so, what kind of battery do i need for it? the 6cell c size? 7.2? I've seen somthign about 12aa batteries? where do they go?

is there a certain mA output i need on them?

glow starter.. should any one work?

fuel.. anywhere to buy online? no local shops :(

thanks alot, and sorry for the noobishness

yes it does come with rotostart,
yes any glowplug will work,
why can't you buy fuel at a local hobby shop, if you really want online, any store has fuel, www.towerhobbies.com is one store. i would recommend blue thunder 20% sport or race formula.

tahnks for the help. what kind of battery do i need for the roto start?

i dont have a local shop to buy nitro

sry, i dont know what kind of battery you need/ :\ , i dont use a rotostart, i use a pull start.

batts. ok i have the battery size figured out. but is there a special output they have to be? I've seen them from 1000 to 2000 mA

The roto takes a 6 cell car pack with standard connector. The mAh rating on the packs is a measure of the capacity. The higher the number, the longer it will provide power. A 3000mah pack will last (run time) twice as long as a 1500mah pack under the same load and voltage. higher mah's also mean they're more expensive. You'll also need a charger for the batter for the roto so keep that in mind.

Yes, the plug does matter. There are cold plugs, medium and hot plugs. For break in, cold plugs will give you less trouble. I use Duratrax Carbon plugs for break in, and once it's broke in I switch up to Dutratrax Gold Racing plugs. The carons are cold, Gold hot. New engines will run better during break in on cold plugs, but he hot ones put out more power once the mill has some fuel thru it.

The 12 AA bateries are for the transmitter and reciever pack. * for the Tx, 4 for the Rx. Get spares for the Rx, you'll need them. Don't skimp on the quality. Cheap batts won't last under heavy loads of the steering servo.

Fuel matters alot too. I found Byrons makes my engines run hot (temp wise). I run Blue Thunder Race in my broke in mills, regular formula for break in. The regular formula has a tad more oil.

Don't worry about asking questions, that's why we're here. Just be sure to use the search feature, or look through the active threads before you post on something. Often times you can find an answer without asking. If not, post away.

Gibson you are better off to buy fuel from a local hobby shop. See places like tower hobbies make you buy like four gallons at a time to make it worth their while. Unless you are running like all the time it's wise to purchase a gallon or two at a time. For a guy like me it takes me a while to go through a gallon even with three Nitro's. I wind up with more wrench time than I do run time but am hoping to change that soon. Later

First off the fuel you are soposed break it in with is 30% so i would strongly reccoment O'donnell 30% secondly you will need a 6 cell battery prefer tower hobbies 1200 battery cheap and a tower hobbies charger for 30 minutes very cheap..You only need 12 AA battery's for the reciever and the remote control.

lol yes, i know its best to buy fuel local, but THERES NO ONE LOCAL i live in a small town. I'm looking around for shops though.

I know it might be a pain, but is there any LHS within a 1 hour drive (1 way) near you? If I'm not mistaken, Towers will still charge HazMat transportation fees when shipping fuel. I haven't ordered fual online, but I'm pretty sure HazMAt isn't listed until you get to the shipping charges on an order. IMO, ordering 1 gallon isn't worth what you might save, rather than taking a road trip and picking up a couple gallons or a case. You could always sell a gallon or two to anyone in your area if you don't want to keep it on hand.

As a matter of fact, I drive an hour to get my fuel. And I get it a case at a time. If the fuel is stored in a dark cool place, it will last longer than you might think. I've had fuel in jugs for a couple years that will still run in my engines (airplane engines), maybe not as good as right from the factory fresh fuel, but it runs fine. Right now I'm running Blue Thunder Race that's been in storage for over 6 months with real good performance.

cool. thanks for the help guys, my savage 25 is on the way :dancin: . I'm going to call around and see what places i can find. i dont mind an hours drive. i drive 2 hours to play paintball

30% fuel for breaking in, hum, thats a new idea. Maybe you mean 30% nitro for breaking the mill into little pieces before its had time to break in. Who am i to argue, perhaps your right, just because HPI recomend 20% does not mean we have to take the word of a well established nitro manufacturer.
