Hey all,

I'm new to these forums as I just got a Kyosho DBX 2.0 as a gift. I'm a beginner with Nitro RC and I was looking at tutorials for tuning. I understand that my model being a low-end one, it's already tuned and so I don't need to mess with the HSN and LSN.

However I played a little bit with my Throttle Trim knob on the controller and I finally set it at the most sensitive setting (the car gets off abruptly with a slight touch of the trigger, but tires don't spin on idle).

So I was wondering : does this affect (or override) the LSN settings? I wouldn't want to mess anything.
Also, if I get into tuning with my needles, is there anything I should know about the throttle trim so I don't fry my engine?:)

Any help would be appreciated!
Aero.

the trim should be at ''0'' ...dont use the trim to adjust the idle ....you will have to learn how to tune your needles ...they will need a bit adjusting depending on the weather ..and no ..the trim does not affect the needles ...just the throttle/ brakes are affected by the trim

As far as I know your throttle trim would affect your throttle servo. Your HSN & LSN adjust your fuel and air mixture. Your HSN controls the over all flow of fuel and air as well as wide open throttle(WOT). The LSN controls the air/fuel mix off the line. Your controller won't have any affect on your engine itself.

Thanks for your quick answers. My friend messed a little bit with my needles, so is it safe to go back to factory settings and put throttle trim all the way down, then start from there?

Also, what is the throttle trim knob really for if my car is tuned right???

Thanks again!

the trim should be at 0 ..''center''....i turn the trim up only when i start it cold ..( just like giving a bit of throttle ) ..then once warmed up , i put it back to ''0''....and yes you can start back from factory settings ...what part of Quebec are you in ??....where i live , factory setting are to lean for me

The throttle trim adjusts the servo horn. It will change were it centers it self giving you a higher idle or tightening your brakes depending on the way you go.

You'll be fine to tune after you reset your needles ,as long as you've completed your break in. Good luck to you.

Thanks Macguyver.

Two more questions if you don't mind :

1) For a RTR kit, how good/performing are stock settings?
2) Do you know any dirt tracks for in Quebec?

Thanks again.

In a RTR or any new engine your stock setings will be rich. You want more fuel in the mix for break in. For power and performance you'll need to do some tuning.

what he (Tmaxnoob) said for the RTR ;)

as for tracks , i dont know of any in my part of the province ...might be some around where you live ....here , we have a BMX track and a dirt bike track ..but i havent had the chance to try them yet ...i mostly drive it in my yard or the field beside my house ;)

Thank you very much guys for your help. I really appreciate it!

Hehe "Sud" stands for "South", and "Abitibi" is the region in the Quebec province. So he's in Abitibi South. :)

I have one last question which I thought I would ask here : In the manual for the GXR-18SP engine, I can only find the settings for the "Needle Valve". They don't give any more details.

Here's how it reads :

"Normal setting of the Needle Valve is about 1.5-1.8 turns back from its fully closed position"

Does this mean that both the HSN and LSN have the same setting? I couldn't find anything on Google or the official website :(. It looks like this engine is new on the market...

from what i could read in your manual , they are talking about the HSN normal setting after break in ...needs to be richer for break in ..

most engine have close to the same LSN setting i think ....which is about flush with the housing ...its a good place to start ;)

So this means I'm screwed because I don't have the stock position for HSN and my car is on its fourth tank... :( Can't run any richer than that...

i would set it at about 2.5 turns out on the hsn and go from there ..if they say 1.5 to 1.8 for normal settings , 2.5 turns should be a good place to start

Thanks again Macguyver. You're very helpful!

Sorry for being a pain, but do you know how I could set the idle speed screw back to default, just in case my friend messed it too? I don't know what he did the first time we got it out of the box :(

Or is there any way to know if the idle speed screw has been modified (any particular symptoms I could check)?
