hi can anyone tell me why my t maxx doesn't always engage in reverse sometimes several attempts are needed :boxing:

That would effect the idle. Richen it slightly and it will slow down. You might have to juggle that with the idle screw, but if the idle isn't low enough, it struggles to get into reverse.

do you think an air leak would raise the idle speed ???

Hey! I almost have the same problem! When I switch into reverse it wont switch back, I usually have to turn the engine off and fiddle with the servo by hand :S . My idle is set to the lowest and I'm sure it was quite rich also. I was also having a problem where the engine keeps speeding up causing the truck to drive faster and faster without me even applying any throttle!

This all happened just before I stripped the carb body around HS-needle... I'll have to see how it runs once I get a new carb body and install my new Resonator...

I'll have to see whats up after I get the carb fixed up. My T-Maxx 2.5 has always been slightly speeding up after about 8-10mins of straight driving. During the winter and colder weather it got worse. (possibly since I'm not good at tuning the engine to cold weather) I had gotten the hobby shop guy who I bought it from tune it up on his bench a couple times. He said its normal to speed up a bit... but he never really saw it drive after 10 mins...
Its not really the idle speed thats increasing because after 10 minutes the truck no longer idles, it drives on its own faster and faster. Once I turn it off and let it cool down it will run at top performance for about 6 minutes, than the same thing happens again...

I'll bet you're not checking temps, and I'll bet it's running way too hot when it leans out that much. Below is some good info for carb adjusting. Look at the photo to see where to put the RTV silicone and seal it well. When you replace the carb, push down very hard to seat the O-ring while you tighten the clamp.

Thanks for the info on sealing the carb, perhaps I should ask the "hobby shop guy" to assist me in replacing the carb body and sealing it when I go to pick up the carb body... I've never replaced anything in my model yet and I do not want to mess up anything.

By the way, does installing the official Traxxas Resonator pipe require re-tuning of the HSN / LSN needles?

I think I should also purchase a temp guage... Could someone direct me to a cheap one that does the job?

Yes it does, since the back pressure pulse changes.

Ask when you're at the LHS. You can get a pretty good one for about $30. Don't rely on temp for tuning, it's just a 'must have' guide to protect your engine.

Are you tring to shift it on a hill beacause they usally don't shift on a hill or when the truck is on an icline, your batterys that run the electronics could also be low.

the new 3.3 trannies are so much nicer the opti drive aint the gratest but it does help and when you shift its so much quick and smoother my revo and my buddies tmaxx 3.3 rock the old trannies I've had alot of problems with either the servo not pushing far enough or yes the shift hub getting stuck to either forward or reverse my advice ditch it or invest 70 bucks tops on fleebay and get the 3.3 trans just my $.02
