right i have a HPI RS4, want to buy some new pieces for it, one of the things I'm looking at is a nitrous kit. does it work and will it improve on my cars acceleration and top speed???

many thanks

Nitrous Oxide is shot into the engine, cooling it and on big cars it drastically improves horsepower.

No. All Nitrous does is drastically lean out the engine by adding extra air to the perfectly tuned fuel mixture. This is why you see a slight increase in the RPM's in that video. It drastically reduces engine life.

That is what I was worried about the furst time I heard anyone mention anything about a nitrous kit for thier rig. I was debating on getting one, but now I do not think that I will. Maybe later on if I get into Drag Racing.

uh hello genious, nitro is not adding extra air to the engine, its actually adding a highly combustable fuel to the engine. its not like an air compressor that just shoots air. As for small two cycle engines like ours, I'm not sure how much of a gain you would get from the nitrous, but i do know that on normal vehicles you can get anywhere from 50+ horsepower in your engine with just a spray. Now as far as engine life goes, i wouldnt doubt that it will lessen engine life if you are really extreme, i mean you can't just do it like the video games and spray all the time. Oh by the way Cupooter learn a little about a topic before you decide to speak about it.

Well, I don't want to get into a pissing match my first day on the board, but for someone who seems to think they know their stuff concerning nitrous, you got a lot wrong there.

Nitrous oxide is not a fuel, it is an oxygenator. It carries a higher density of oxygen than air, so injecting it allows more fuel to be burned, thus allowing an engine to produce more power than normally would be possible. In an rc application, one would need to create a secondary fuel delivery system to add the needed extra fuel to make more power and keep the engine from running lean.

The highly pressurized vapor would also provid a cooling effect, however that effect would be negated by all the extra comustion occurring in the engine. Nitrous in a 4 stroke usually require a lot of ignition retard to avoid damaging detonation.

Long story short, it would be a silly ricer/bling add on to an rc, unfortunately, people's mis information has made it much the same in the automotive world.

I agree with you yourgrandma totally pointless may look cool to have a little nos tank thou

ha jvr, way to make friends with your whole 3 posts on the board....

apparently YOU need to learn a bit before speaking.. Nos is technically not combustible on its own. It does however have an excess of oxygen. this excess of oxygen injected into the engine, is just like shoving a whole pile of air in there, it allows the fuel to burn hotter, and faster because everything needs oxygen to burn, and the more oxygen there is the better it burns. same reason you can't smoke around someone with an oxygen tank. poof!

injecting it into a small 2 stroke will make the fuel burn hotter, which will make the engine hotter, which will make it wear out faster, and with those kits being like 150 buns a piece, i would MUCH rather spend my money on a bigger faster engine that will last longer and have the power all the time, then shoot a couple of times and roast the piston.

I had to arrest a guy who was doing "baloons" of Nitrous and ran down the street naked at mardi gras. Good times. Good times.

There was just too much bitching in this thread. Had to break it down. By the way, whatever happened to Nitro RC Basher?

yeah nitrous is baadddd, i wouldnt even put that on a gaz engine....nitro engine wont like it at all for sure...specialy when ist injected without additional fuel...its just as bad as running super lean
