Just a newbie question, I was running my2.5 today and I switched fuel. Still 20% but just a different brand. The motor was tuned and running good, but when I put the other brand fuel in it wouldn't idle. Any input? Something else? Or just an operator problem?? (They are most of my usual problems)
 
a different brand of fuel, can cause a change in tune. you might have to tune for your specific oil content.
 
As Mn Monster said different brands of fuel have a different amount of oil in them so you will have to re-tune to that specific brand
 
That may be the difference. Odonnells is a much better brand of fuel. When i was running traxxas fuel my revo was running but hard to tune and shotty performance. Switched to Byrons and it cleared up. Easier tuning and much better performance. I ran odonnells in my buggy at first then ran out and changed to sidwinder which is a good fuel too but i noticed a difference from odonnells. It is just a tunning issue I'm sure no matter the brand of fuel. Go back to factory settings and start fresh. If it doesn't get better you may want to find some more odonnells and stick with what runs best.
 
Going back to factory tuning is not a good idea for this situation.

Make sure you have a proper idle gap of 1mm or slightly less, then lean the lsn in itty bitty little increments until it will idle again.....after you've warmed it up. The Tower fuel most likely contains more oil than the O'donnell's, which will affect your idle.
 
All 20% fuel has the same amount of oil in them. 20% fuel-80% other stuff (oil) but the different percentages of different oil and quality of the nitro methane does make a difference. ALWAYS use a good quality fuel. I have tried them all over the years and I like O'Donnells speed blend the best. Only one I like better is Cold Fusion, but it is hard to find. Whenever you change fuel brand you will always have to fine tune it again, but like 2revo1maxx said, it wouldn't be a good idea to go back to factory settings. It just needs a little adjustment to be good again.

The amount of oil varies greatly in different fuels. You have to consider the fact that "nitromethane" rc fuel is mostly methanol. Example: The 20% Byron's fuel I use is 20% nitro, 12% oil, and the rest is methanol along with whatever small percentage of additives. Traxxas fuel on the other hand contains 16% oil, and some race fuels are only 8% oil.

Oil content plays a huge role in how your engine is going to run.

Try something better, you'll never look back. Traxxas fuel is known for having excessive oil, if you run some quality fuel with a lower oil% you'll more than likely notice a boost in performance.
