Does anybody have the new HPI pro .12r xs engine. If not does anybody know anyone who does and how it performs? I looking to get one but would like to get some input before I purchase one. I have a .12 Fantom that worked o.k. for about a month (now out of warranty period "figures") and now it crapped out on me along with carburetor problems. Both the idle screw broke off in the carbureator and the fuel inlet nipple also broke off in the carb. I guess I just got a lemon. And by the way I don't find the Fantoms particularly easy to tune neither. Any input on the .12 r xs would be greatly appreciated!!

I don't have any experience with the Pro .12, so I won't be able to give you any advice on that specific engine. But what vehicle are you loading it into? That may give us something else to go on. There are a lot of road racers here so if it's in a touring car, you may find some good help.

I`ve just ordered this engine, will receive it in a few days.
seems like a nice, fast engine by novarossi.

will send in a report when i`ve fully tested this engine.

You should be a lot happier with this engine than the Fantom. My brother had a ProSS on his touring car and it was pretty easy to tune. I'm pretty sure the ProR XS should be better performance wise.

Hi,

This engine is a really fast and smooth running engine.
lots of rev`s, lot of power.

I`ve installed it in my serpent impact and i am breaking it in now, this engine is very nicely build and it`s definitly a novarossi engine.

It is not an easy to tune engine. It`s a 3 needle carb. so you really have to take you`re time tuning the low to mid range, and mid to high range needle settings, you got to have a lot of experience in order to make this engine run smooth at the right temp.

will post more info later!

happy racing......

Hi,

performed break-in and engine is running at (almost) full potential now.
this is a very nice and fast .12 racing engine!
absolutely worth you`re money (i paid usd125 at meganitro.com)

not sure about the 1,35 hp, maybe this is what you get when running it on a bench with prop. and 30% nitro, just before the engine explodes. :-)
anyway, it`s has far more power than many 'standard' .15 engines and is easy to maintain and run.

my 'first start' break in settings:
high speed needle: 6 3/4 turns ccw (manual says 6 1/4)
mid/mxture needle: 2,5 turns ccw (manual says 1 - 1 1/2 preset)
low speed needle : 4 1/4 turns ccw (manual says 4)
tornado fuel with 16% nitro and 19% caster oil.

the preset setting on the engine i received where wrong, and not according to manual, please check this before starting.
i ran the first 3 tanks at this (very very rich) setting (you will be ok breaking in at manual`s settings) and turned in highspeed needle approx. 20 deg. every following tank. stayed at low to mid speeds/rev`s. with a short full trottle every now and then..
ran about 20 tank (75ccm) of fuel this way.

after break in : (very cold outside and moisty)

high speed : about 4 still slightly on the 'rich' side
mid : about 1 3/4
low : about 3 3/4

could not make runs above 30mtrs (1 to 2 sec`s) i choose a
rich setting for this engine. please don`t use this settings as a guideline, for it may vary under weather influences and nitro fuel used, and i rather have my engines run longer than faster, so i always tune them a bit rich when touring on a parking lot.

again, this is a very fast engine at low pricing!

have fun....

Remco
