In two weeks time I'm going to be taking my xtm racing monster mt to some sand dune and i wanted to know if there is anything i can to keep keep the sand out of the engine and gearing ,and generaly if nitro trucks can cope with sand ?

Should be OK with the sand. Just make sure your filter is a dual stage and you don't have any leaks. Sand can wreak havoc on a Nitro motor if it gets inside. If you run a vented clutch bell....swap it out for a non vented and such....and bring a spare clutch and fully expect to smoke the clutch you have in there ;-)

yep just got back from the dunes and the only casualties were a clutch out of one of the nitro's and all of the spur gears in the electrics. Good trip. BTW all three nitro's had motor saver filters....

Where do you get saver filters from and What tuers did you run?

Got the motor saver filter at the LHS but they have them at Amain, HERE are the Revo ones. As for tires they were as follows.

Brushless slash x 3 Proline Sand Paw

Revo 3.3 Losi 420 Front Rear

LST2 Losi 420's Front and Rear

Tmaxx Stock Chevrons

Rustler VXL Imex super wide tires not sure of name they were closeout 5$ but they hook up.

Hell I have just the stock t-maxx filter don't know if its a two stage or not but it works great. A point of experience keep it on its wheels because if you do roll sand gets everywhere. When I comes time to cleaning I just take the garden hose and clean my a-arms and skids with that a tooth brush, I find that this method works great. Another pointer before you do after take your engine out and clean with either brake clean or nitro clean; you want you engine to be spot less expecially by the gp hole and where the air filter ataches to the carb body. Take these pointers and use them I drive in the sand all the time.

I used a good air compressor on all my rigs and got all the sand out then do a quick tear down between sand bashes. you almost have to w/ sand if you want your stuff to last.
