Some of these electrics are damn fast and seem more fun when you can eliminate the fuel, noise ( i know, that's a pro not a con) and smell. Nitro to me just says all out power and longevity...and tuning.

Now that's only half my problem. So many choices. Now, I am partial to HPI simply due to the fun I had at the HPI challenge and I do not see any other companies sponsoring events like this. So, what should I get? It's going to be strictly parking lot racing and bashing as I doubt I will ever visit real tracks.
 
for on-road parking lot bashing, get the NTC3. there are tons of parts available and it has a good combination of power and suspension tunablity for the parking lot.

for electrics, there is much more maintainance for the motor, batteries, etc. the great thing about electrics is that they run on rails, and you can run them both indoors and outdoors. i am planning on entering electric touring racing for the winter season. electric touring sedans are either the tc3/4 or losi xxx-s.
 
My brother (sl0eg1n) and I share the same view towards HPI products but nonetheless, I would say to go Nitro.

I know that the electrics are fast but as he said, the upkeep on them can be just as costly. They do handle very well. The handeling on them are excellent when set up correctly. As a parking lot basher, they are not. I'd say get a nitro car.

The NTC3 is a great car. OK, so I'm a little biased since I have one. Since you are looking towards HPI products, the RS4-3 TypeSS is a nice one. The R40 is another favorite.

All I can say is don't limit yourself just to the HPI challenge for some competition. There are many tracks around that you can race at.

Bruckner has just purchased the Edison track; Prospeed; Einfeld; Hobby Chamber. Once you get bitten by the bug, you will look forward to racing every weekend or any chance you get.

I used to think that I would never get into racing but I proved myself wrong this year and started going to prospeed every weekend during the summer. Besdes, there's a few of us here that go or have gone there ... 710Baby, sl0eg1n, Team17, Ratzo, Remy, Dreamcatcher (the owner of prospeed) and of course myself.
 
See, what I liked about the HPI challenge was not just the getting to race part but also getting to see almost every class of on and off road rc in action. Savage racing is also funny as hell both being a racer and being a spectator. It's not like at CP where you run one on one but rather 10 of them big boys tearing up around the track...it gets interesting to say the least. Not sure what your views are toward HPI but I do wish you would share. If I do not get an HPI car, I would get the NTC3 simply because you guys seem to lovge 'em so much adn I have seen them at CP.
 
the issue i have with HPI is that the money needed for hopups and low-caliber builds of their kits. the plastic on HPI cars seem to be very brittle and heavy. HPI kits are great for beginners but when compared to the high end kits, the differences are greatly noticeable. i noticed this when i compared it to my HPI super nitro and NTC3. now that i have a serpent 710, i notice a greater difference.

the one kit that i love from HPI is the savage ss. it's the only monster truck sold in kit form. i use it to bash around the park and run over on-roads.

Well, I will say that one of the guys with me at the HPIC broke 3 arms on his MT2, not impressive. The Savage SS, on the other hand, can't be broken IMO...but I'm trying. :hammer:

I might just get a used one first, see how it goes and then take it from there. I have already tried an onroad electric and a nitro and I know I am going to break poop so I really don't want to spend a ton of money just yet. Don't worry though, if I come out to CP with it, I will put foam bumpers all over it to keep your damage to a minimum. :D

With the Savage I see myself putting a lot more money into it as I am quite comfortable with the handling with a number of hop ups on it already.
 
If you are looking in at electric go with the Pro4 you can put the brushless system & you will have a really fast car
 
Well, CP is the place if you want to see the variety of on-roads but lately, the NTC3 has been the flavor of the month. Used to be that my brother and I were the only ones using that car but then everyone started getting the NTC3 after they saw how much fun we were having with it and the reliability was a plus as well. Others were breaking down while we were still running laps. I beleive 3 or 4 were added to the roster.

Don't get me wrong, I will always love and keep the NTC3 close to my heart because that was my first car. I bought it because I didn't have enough money for the serpent or mugen at the time. But now that I have the Serpent 710 (the NTC3 is my backup racer), there is a noticeable difference in handeling and dynamics. It's like comparing a Japanese tuner car to a Porsche.

The tuner car started off with humble beginings but with quite a few hop-ups and bottomless budgets, it can now contend with the higher end cars like the Porsche. Granted, contention is there but how much did you spend and how direct of a line did you take to get it there? That's what sl0eg1n and I are talking about.

I know you're new to the on-road scene and I really wouldn't suggest getting a 710, but I wouldn't want to steer you wrong either. Based on my experience with the car, the NTC3 is a great car for the novice to intermediate driver.

BTW, I have seen 710Baby's Pro4 in action and it's a great car. Just don't exclude the Losi or the TC3 (the TC4 is due next month if you want to wait).

the website states the end of september. from a marketing point of view, it would be good business practice to release the product as the indoor electric season begins and nitro season ends.
