:surrender Hey I have a new MT2, took for every to get the engine finally started; here is my issue, I ran 2 tanks through it, now I am trying to get the truck to run on the ground, it seemd like there is not enough torque to move the truck. I lift it off the ground and the whell and engin spin and rpms increase rapidly.

Once I put it onth eground and give the truck gas it moves slow or dies.

I have been in an email exchange with HPI just to get it started.

Any ideas.

If this is a new truck, it doesn't sound completely unusual. If you're in the break-in process, the engine is running intentionally rich. While running that way, it's not uncommon to have the engine bog when under load (while it's on the ground). If you're at the stage where you're supposed to drive it slowly around, try leaning out the high-speed needle (HSN) about 1/8th of a turn (clockwise) and see if that helps. That should get you rolling.

I have leaned the engine out as directed by the HPI customer service; ran three tanks through it that way. I am trying now get it were it will run with speed at least when moving the throttle from half to full and the speed increases. It seems to be a never ending battle. I can get it started but then you can not give it gas or it dies, once you adjust the HSN to get it to run it does not get fast, and then if it dies you can not get it started with out re-adjusting the HSN.

The engine sounds like it is running but like I stated earlier there is not enough torque to make it go. I don't know if teh slip clutch is slipping too much or something like that. Sad part of this whole thing is I have a cheap truck bought online that is fun fun fun but parts ore an issue when buying at locate stores, so I bought this one and there support is not much better (only support you get is in spending money). I just would like to know where I can find information on what the right things to do are since support from local shops is null.

Did you ck to see if there is any air leaks? My carb o-ring wasn't in right and it never ran right untill i cked it.

I'll have to check that when I get home, I was looking at how to check air leaks just prior to reading this.

I was looking on Team Losi's web site a few months back and they had a great how to look for air leaks. The way they explained was to remove engine from truck and hold your fingers over the exhaust port and carb opening and place in soapy water. Get a peice of new/clean fuel line a blow into it and see where the bubbles come from. I couldnt find it today but I know it was there somewhere. Hope this helps some.

This is brand new? Just gone through break in?
When you try to take off on the ground, do you hear the engine revving high, or does it just not want to pull?
If the revs go up, the slipper is too loose. if it just wants to die, you need to adjust the LSN.
Put the nose of the truck up against something, and while it's running, slowly give it some throttle. SLOWLY turn in the LSN while holding some throttle to it, and see if it starts to push harder. If not, slowly turn the LSN out, to richen it. When you get it to where it will push without dying out, put it on the ground, and throttle it from a stop, get it up to speed and see what it does at WOT. That's where you need to adjust the HSN.
Make sure you see a good trail of smoke, and since it's new, keep it a little on the rich side. Don't be tuning it for flat out speed yet.
A lot of engines can be pretty stubborn when they're new, but once they get 8 to 10 tanks through them they'll start to level out.

Well finally got a chance to work with my truck. I checked for leaks, did not find any. I got the truck running, only problem is to get it running I have to set the HSN ad LSN to star point. once it starts I have to tune it so it will run. I have also adjusted the slip clutch and still have the same issue. The bell clutch spins freely but it also has some play. Could it be too loose and if so how would I adjust it.

You need to give it some warm up time. If you adjust it to start, of cource you'll need to adjust it again.

Put a strip of paper between the CB gear and the spur. Hold them together tightly while locking the engine in place.

I finally received some help from the RC shop here; we got started but then it died. Then we could not get it started again; for some reason the engine is loosing compression. What can I do to correct this problem; again the shops answer is get a new engine.

Do the easy stuff first. Check the compression washer on the glow plug, make sure you don't have an extra one sticking to the head. You could also disassemble your engine and check yor shims, make sure the head is on tight.

I have checked all that and still have the issue. what can I do now?

Did the truck come with the .15 or the .18? It really isn't important but if you have the .15 you may want the .18 anyway. You could consider doing a piston and sleeve replacement, but it seems to me that engine went bad really quick for that. Depending on how long you had the truck, you may be able to work out a waranty deal with HPI. It may not seem like it now, but HPI has one of the best customer support systems.

I have emailed HPI and I will see what they will do; I'll keep you all up to date. In the mean time I did buy an O.C Max 18 Cv-R. It's Veterans Day weekend. Special time for me, I severed 21 years in the Infantry. The HPI is my second truck my first is an Ebay special from Himoto Racing, cheap but I thought a good starter; Gear 1 is worn so until it arrives I was dead in the water. New engine works like a charm so far. I finished braking it in today. Looking for fun tomorrow.

HPI is pretty good about waranty issues from what I hear, you should hear back shortly. 21 Years infantry, wow, I have 16 on the aviation side of the house.

HPI response

:spit:Here is HPI Support response to my engine issue; I have to admit I am disappointed:
Hello Russell,

Unfortunately we don’t cover loss of compression under warranty but you can send it in so we can have a tech at least get it to run? We would need the whole truck so we can the tech run it.

Thanks

Customer support

I thought I may have to send the engine back not the whole truck; I want to drive and enjoy not wait two weeks to drive. That was the whole reason I got a new truck; I thought that I would not be without having local support. Any advice on what to do or what to do with the engine.

The .18 is running great by the way.

Karl; aviaton close to my heart, while in 10th Mountain by air we would travel.

Russ

If you are satisfied with the 18 (you would have wanted to put one in anyway) keep the truck and save the engine for a paper weight. I am a little surprized they wanted the truck too.
