does nitro gas go bad after sitting a while? I just bough a used nitro from my friend and he gave me some Byron 20% gas with it. he told me that it has been sitting for about 2 years. do you think it would be fine to still use it?

It's probably gone bad. The alcohol in the fuel tends to absorb water and this causes the fuel to go bad.

It was opened but then the cap was put back on right? Where/how was it stored? Sunlight is nitro's worst enemy followed by moisture. A dry dark place like a closet is best for storing it. If stored properly, even after opening and using some, the fuel can last a long time.

Due to how busy I am I don't get to run much and I am always using fuel that is older. I am actually getting ready to go run a couple of tanks now and my fuel(Losi Nitrotane 20%) is at least 2 years old.

Bottom line,I'd try it before you pitch it. Worst case you have to clean out the fuel lines and put fresh fuel in it.

If it was only opened for a min then closed up right and stored properly I would think it would be ok. Did he sqeeze the air out before resealing it. I always crush the bottle to bring the fuel right up to the top before I close and store it. Doing this in combination with storing it in a cool dark place your fuel should last 2 years + easy. And if you still aren't sure replace it an start fresh. The old (bad) fuel still has uses like cleaning your air filters etc.
