I'm currently stationed in Iraq and was thinking about building an MBX5 out here to kill some time. Only problem I've come accross: getting fuel shipped out here. Anyone know how I can buy fuel and have it shipped out here to my FPO/APO address?

Tower Hobbies would ship it, but only in qrts.

I've checked them. They used to but now their "policies" section reads that they won't ship flamable materials to FPO/APO addresses...

well, if youve got time on your hands. build it with a brushless LiPo conversion.

I read on another board about some guys stationed there were getting it from Kuwait. Unfortunately Nitro is a HAZMAT and will only ship ground. I'll pm you some info.

I'm up in Kirkuk trying to track down how to get fuel as well. We had one guy out of about 6 of us with enough forsight to bring a gallon of his own but as rigs get back into running shape, it won't take long to dissappear. Please pass, pm, email or smoke signal any informtion anyone can get on obtaining fuel here. I'll take any suggestions, let me worry about the legality.

it's simple:

don't run nitro.
Run electric or gas (like the Baja SS or 5T would be a great choice in the desert - but i know it's expensive, although there are some good used ones).

agreed, that is certainly the common sense solution. Unfortunately we can only run what we brung. one of which was the baja...it's uh, temporarily out of commision

PM me your APO/FPO zipcode. I can look up if nitro fuel is considered a restricted "hazardous" material. If it is, you could always make your own fuel instead if you have access to ingredients.

1 gallon of 20% fuel:
nitromethane - 25.6oz
oil - 15.4oz
methanol - 87oz

I gallon of 30% nitro:
nitromethane - 38.4oz
oil - 15.4oz
methanol - 74.2oz

Either way, I'll see what I can find to get you guys some over there, even if I have to ship it myself. :)

So, an update. I spoke with an Army rep on the east coast (they're up at this hour, still 7am here in the west coast) and am trying to track down a way to get fuel over to you guys. I need that APO zip!

In an hour (10am CST) I'll be on the phone with Horizon Hobby in IL (they own Trinity of Trinity Fuel) to try to find someone who might have handled this kind of thing previously to see what is required to get nitro fuel shipped to you.

I mean, you get bombs and missiles & crap shipped there, a little nitro fuel should be manageable somehow for christ sakes. If I have to bug my security contacts at the DoD, I'll see what I can find.

I needed a weekend project anyway :)

We appreciate any help you can offer. I think we are up to around 15 or so cars inbound, and about 5 already here, some electric, some nitro. Have a few other nitro guys holding off sending theirs because of the fuel issue. we have many more potential rc hobbyists looking to get into cars, planes, helo's you name it. We even have a 1/5 gas set up but it didn't survive it's first day, I unfortunately missed the details of it's demise but parts are on its way and i will hopefully be on the ground to see round 2.

I am also woking on getting our track rebuilt and a control platform set up. If all goes well, by the time spring gets here and the rains are done, this place should be a little piece of rc heaven.....well, a heaven that gets mortared on occasion...lol

"Amoeba" is the man, and if he can get it done he will! I'm in 100%. The other day a new guy came to the track and said "everyone is so nice", we all responded together.... "its why we are here, not just for the fun, but because the people make it worth it"! So if we can do it we will.

It's all an act. I'm only doing it to snag the RCNT Member of the Year for 2009. My evil plan is working!

:D

i'd be willing to pitch in to send some nitro over there. if someone starts taking up a collection or something i'd gladly support our troops and their hobby

A RCNT Christmas for the troops. Thats a great idea, I'll buy a gallon or two if we can figure out how to get it there.:)

might wanna check kuwait hobby shop. i'm pretty sure they can hook you up on something. my box of sidewinder came in from them and its labelled by the manufacturer as airline safe... I'm in Saudi Arabia btw.

I think you guys are all awesome and from the bottom of my heart, thank you all for whatever help you provide. I've already mentioned this forum to a few guys here and one has already signed up. I suspect that tomorrow's trip to the Air Forces Heavy Equipment Shop, when I come rolling out to the POS track and start a new one with a very large bucket loader, the guys will start pulling resources pretty quick at least that's the plan. Let's all cross our fingers there's any equipment there tomorrow to get my hands on. To understand why this is needed...our current track is roughly a 60' circle flat track with one turn into center and back out. It's marked by old tires over traffic cones that surely caused some issues when they were taken from wherever they were supposed to have been....lol

You wouldn't happen to have any contact info on this shop kuwait would you? If so, please pm or email me. This is the second time I heard someone mention a shop in kuwait that is selling to guys here in Iraq but no one seems to know how to get a hold of them to order anything.

ask some family members to go buy it and ship it. the other thaing is are people allowed to no where your stationed.
