my lhs told me I HAVE to run traxxas nitro in a revo because it has more oil in it that revo engines need. is this true??

No you can run pretty much any fuel as long as as the nitro content is anywhere between 15% and 30%. I prefer my oil content around 10%-12%....I think the Traxxas fuel is like 18% which is really more than needed IMO.

I have run Maxy's 20% and 30%, and O'Donnell's 20% without a fault. I've never used Traxxas Top Fuel yet

Any of the top brands of fuel will work for as long as the have the 15% oil or better. Some hobby shops will tell that you can only run Traxxas fuel in a Traxxas rig or you will void your warranty. This is so they can sell more of the Traxxas fuel which tends to have a better profit margin for them.

My TRX engines seemed to run a tad cooler with TRX fuel. Due to the oil I'm sure. But they ran about the same on Byron's. Traxxas fuel will make you a pro at pulling your engine to clean one way bearings.

Traxxas pumps their fuel full of oil in hopes that it'll keep a few newbs from smoking their engines before they know how to tune.

Yeah, the mess sucks, slipping bearings are a pain when you just wanna rip and knowing your engine is under unnecessary stress is a bad feeling.

i was there earlier today. they had two types of byron. one with 12% oil, the other with 18%. they recommended the 18 for traxxas and 12 for hpi. i guess it really doesn't matter as long as you know how to tune?

ok so maybe its in my head, but i was using morgan fuels sidewinder 12% oil, had numerous bearing issues, switched to traxxas or morgans backyard basher, all of a sudden no more bearing issues, same nitro, more oil, i have 3 trx 3.3 engines and havent had bearing issues in more than a year now, to qaulify, i still tune the exact same way.......

I use Byron's 20 and 30% fuel mixed 50-50 for roughly 11.5% oil content. I've noticed a decline in temps, due to the decrease in oil and increase in methanol. I have no worries or problems regardless of engine choice.
