Is there a readily available spary solvent that can be used in place of the expensive "Nitro Cleaners" they sell at the LHS?

It kills me to pay $8 for a can of cleaner

Pretty much any degreaser should work. I don't think there is anything special about nitro fuel... Simple green, jungle jake, alcohol, should all work. If you have tough grime an engine degreaser would probably work. It's pretty strong stuff, I doubt you would need it though. If you have an old water pick, those work great. You can fill it with your solution and its pressurized pretty good to blast away grime. just don't use it to clean your teeth afterward

Cool once again thanks everybody, I like the waterpik idea because I am looking for something that will blast a bit.

or maybe a good weed/bug sprayer (a small one). those can be set to have a stream. and then you are not running a flammable liquid through a plastic pump near a running electric (possible spark risk) motor.

or one of these cool sprayers, pressurized with air from your compressor via a tire valve type air valve.
