Okay, I don't think you understand what I was saying. I was NEVER accusing WoodiE of EVER trying to commit wrong doing. I tried to make that as clear as possible. I fully trust WoodiE, I don't believe he'd ever do something like that.

All I was trying to point out was the POSSIBLE controversy that might be created should you have different price choices that are VASTLY different in value. Last thing I want to see is a bunch of pissed off members leaving the forum over something that could have been easily avoided.

Well the reason why I mentioned the engine giveaway fiasco, was because this new lotto idea can easily be twisted into a whole conspiracy theory. Like trying to maximize profits by giving away items very few will want in hopes the winner chooses the gift certificate.

kwong2001,

I know NCNitro and Candyman has already hit on this, but I'm gonna add my 2cents as well. I just don't see the connection, the engine was a FREE giveaway which came out of my pocket. At that time we didn't have advertisers, contributors, or any other means of income other then what I made from my daily job from day to day. The winner was randomly picked just as the lotto, the winner was happy and the losers got mad. The lotto's are a paid raffle to which the winner is randomly picked, it wasn't until recently that RCNT actually makes anything worth mentioning (even now it's still not a lot, but helps). My suggestion IS a way of for lack of better words "punishing" the winner that didn't want the main prize, thus the reason the GC would only be for 50% of the value of the main item.

Either way, be it the main item or a GC, RCNT still makes its money but what really matters is that the WINNER makes the choice of what they get. That's where I'm not seeing the controversy at here. Since the winner has a choice of the main item or a GC, where's the problem? How does a controversy start from that? The winner is not forced to pick one over the other, only to pick just one of them. Going back to "punishing" the winner that didn't want the main item but played anyways - the reason I do this is for the same point already made, if I offer a main item or a GC for equal value then why not just have a lotto for a GC and say the heck with coming up with items anymore...see my point?

You now have a choice, the main item if you are into that or a GC for half that amount - either way the cost of a ticket compared to the cost of a GC or main item is going to be MUCH cheaper and thus an excellent deal for the winner - no matter what they choose.

Where did I go wrong?

BTW: I don't believe you are accusing me or anyone else here of wrong doing, I just think we're not understanding each other.

Well, like you said, the engine giveaway was something that was free. I can just see something happening when you involve other people's money. I know i'm not good at explaining my thoughts. Guess the only thing to do is accept that fact that other people aren't seeing it the way I do, and be done with it.

Anyhoo, i've given up on my different choice idea since the majority has over-ruled it. But my intentions were good regardless of how other people see it.

kwong2001,

Don't be discouraged just because others don't see things the way you do. I'm just trying to see it your way. I think I'm kinda seeing what you mean, but I'm not sure. If the buyers know there is going to be a choice at the end of the lottery be it one the actual item or two the GC for 50% then how is there a problem? The buyer is fully aware of what will come in the end, a choice. The choice is made by the winner, so in terms of the rest of the players the lotto is over so any questions that may happen would be no more.

What am I not seeing your way?

-Michael

I like different items being auctioned. If you win it instead of buying it, it might be something you would have never thought of buying. It might actually get you into a different part of the hobby!

kwong, I do see your point. And I bet somewhere there are members who might cry foul if they though WoodiE was putting up chumpy prizes on the lotteries. But I'm certain that the prizes will still be good prizes. Mainly because WE give input on what we'd like to see offered. There is still the freedom of choice as you can opt out of the lottery if you're not interested in the prize. I'm sure you've entered a fair number of lotteries. And I'm bettin' that you entered all of them because you liked the prize. Right? My 2 cents is that it's kinda silly to enter a drawing for something that you don't like. I may be wrong. The issue is getting kinda silly really. I like the way the lottery is now. I understand that you're trying to point out some possible reactions to the lottery system. But just remember 2 things. First, the lottery is ALWAYS optional. Second, if you feel something is not right with the way it's set up, you can actually speak up about it. You may get members who agree. You may get members who think you're a tool. But at least you can speak up about it.

I believe the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it!" comes into play. I believe the way WoodiE is running the lottery is working just fine. I've purchased tickets for some and opted out for others. ie. I would be opting out of the Miss Bud lottery. I would love to have one but sadly all it would do is sit and collect dust. I just don't have a place to run it. I would also feel bad winning the lotto and just looking at it when I know there is someone on the board who would have a place to run it.

Hey mcvick, if you win you could always send it to me. There are soooo many lakes I can use it on in my county, not to mention I live on a canal. So play, play, just send it to me if you win. :D

I think that there are too many members here to assume that they will want the same thing. Woodie's offer is fair and I will participate. Not that I will win..... AHEM. But I will play. The option to get either or is awesome as you spend a couple of bucks and if you win Great. If not then better luck next time. I have played a couple now.

I am willing to chance a couple bucks.

I thought that might have been the point he was trying to make but wasn't sure. To respond to that, I don't see how that would be an issue as well as all the lotteries we've had thus far have all been picked by the members.

None the less, this is all really no big deal as I was just throwing out a suggestion, and not something that is going to be a change for sure. I wanted everyone's input and it seems the majority agree's as do I that keeping it the way it is will do fine - as always some lotto's will take longer then other, but given time they all sell out.

BTW, until further notice Candyman is banned - chump this! :D
