looks like the miss bub has the vote

I'm in for a boat. Just got a new 1:1 truck, and just maybe I'll be able to get a 1:1 bass boat in the spring to retrieve miss bud. I love excusses. LOL!!!!!!!!

On the either or thing. It is a great idea, but I think it is more fun to have a specific prize to talk about for a couple weeks while the lotto is selling out. GC's are nice, but this brings a chance to try a boat, plane, or any other out of the norm RC at a fraction of the cost. Just my $0.02 Really I'm in for about anything.

Although the "choice" lottery sounds nice, it seems to lose the spirit if you have a lotto that is basically "for whatever you'd like". I like the way it is...why not just have continual lotteries for gift certificates?

My thoughts exactly, having a choice defeats the purpose of having any set item. I don't mind the random GC from time to time, but I really like the set item.

I guess if we really wanted to do the option thing, I think the best way to accommodate to those members yet still have a set item would be to offer a GC at half the price of the main item, example:

Miss Bud - $299
RCNT Shirt - $20-30
RCNT Decals - $3-4

The winner could either get all that or:

GC - $149.50
RCNT Shirt - $20-30
RCNT Decals - $3-4

This way we try to deter the continual lotteries for gift certificates, yet still appeal to those not waiting the item on hand, and RCNT would benefit from both - obviously one more then the other.

Just me thinking out loud, though I like the set item better.

well the bud package will be more, you get a RTR r/c, with a t shirt and decals, the GC is almost 150, you can't buy a kit with that, i mean sure you can, but at the same time you cannot buy a NTC3 kit etc. get what I'm saying? so if its for only those two... i guess i'll go with the Ms.. Bub, i mean Bud, opps. :) :)

later guys

I don't really care what the lotto prize is I just prefer a set item. Although I have not yet won a lotto I think it would be more exciting to win 'something' rather than 'anything'. Now granted you might have less involvement in a set item lotto than a GC but I really think those who buy tickets for a set item really WANT thatt item and may appreciate winning a bit more.

=more excitement. I guess that's the bottom line IMO.

Well the reason why I said i'd like to have several items to choose from is so we could have a better chance to accomodate everyone. It seems when we get specific on an item such as a onroad or 1/8 scale buggy, the lotto sells a lot slower. Some people don't want the item, so they don't buy any tickets.

While I realize i'm heavily biased in my opinions of a boat, I just can't see all the tickets selling all that quickly. I'd be very surprised if it sold out in a month.

By bringing different items for an auction, you will bring a lot more potential ticket buyers in by catering towards more people. Selling out more quickly, and giving us the chance to have lotteries more frequently. With the current lotto trends, that would also mean more revenue for RCNT so woodiE doesn't have to go broke for website expenses.

this is what i was thinking if you pigionhole it to one spectialty type item like boats or planes your gonna have a harder time selling tickets due to lack of popular interest in those ...could be wrong though

You're correct, but this also goes for anything we have for a lotto. Not everyone wants a NTC3+, Savage, boat, plane, or tools. Since the day I've started this site one thing I've learned right away is that you'll never make everyone happy - I try my best to find the nice happy medium.

As stated on the bottom of page three of this post, I'd be more then willing to offer a GC at half the price of the main item to those that want to play but don't want the item at hand. The member benefits, as does RCNT.

I dunno, the way I look at it, you're punishing the person for not wanting the main item by giving him a GC of lower value. Sadly, if I were to win that lotto, i'd probably end up taking the boat and selling it on eBay just because it's more value.

Also, you remember all the controversy with the engine giveaway? I could see the same thing happening if someone got the gift certificate of 50% what the value of the main item.

The way I see it, it's like Howard Stern. If you don't like it, change the channel. If you don't like the item in the lotto, don't play. It's a simple question. If you didn't want what was offered in the lottery, why play? He has said in many other lotto threads that he wants to spread it out a bit. There will be lottos again for gift certificates, touring cars, buggies, monster trucks etc. Just pick and choose the ones you want to enter. I don't buy into every lottery. It depends on the item. Hell, if every lotto was for a "prize of choice" I'd be in every one and well on my way to broke. I can see the other side, but it's not a strong one. So far we have sold out every lottery. Yeah, a boat lotto may take a little longer because not as many people will be joining in. Perhaps WoodiE can offset that by offering slightly less tickets at a slightly higher price. Considering the fact that the 1/12 scale Miss Bud is selling for like $300 RTR right now leads me to believe we could sell it out rather handily.
So, throwing my opinon in because I'm a self-centered imposing ass, I'd like to see lotteries for perhaps the Miss Bud boat, another 1/8 scale buggy because I really want one or perhaps a Hot Bodies MiniZilla 1/18 scale MT when they're out because I want one of those as well.....

And remember, the contraversy surrounding the engine giveaway had nothing to do with the value of the engine, rather WHO won it. All I'll say is I got the exact engine that WoodiE advertized.....

Well the reason why I mentioned the engine giveaway fiasco, was because this new lotto idea can easily be twisted into a whole conspiracy theory. Like trying to maximize profits by giving away items very few will want in hopes the winner chooses the gift certificate.

If something like that happened, I am not saying that I would ever come to believe something like that. I believe woodiE to be a very honest and straightforward individual and I trust him, but I can see controversy happening.

If it's a choice between a lotto with a choice between an item or a GC of half value OR just having a single item for the lotto, then i'd much rather have just the item and scrap the whole different choices idea.

But I would like to at least see a trend of a new lotto once a month. In the past it seems like it's come in cycles.

Also, while I have no doubt the engine giveaway was fair, I don't recall seeing any pictures nor a report of the performance of the engine lol ;)

Kwong, if you don't like what is offered, it's simple , SIT OUT!. If you think it's rigged, SIT OUT! No one forces anyone to play in every lotto. I sat out a time or two when I was not interested in the prize. Did I whine or complain, I don't like that prize I want something else? No I just sat out. I also can't believe you would drag the engine giveaway in to a what do you want lottery. Hey man :chillpill

And just to add, the engine is running fine. It shined brightly at the East Coast Bash in August. I was one of the few small blocks there and although I wasn't the fastest, I certainly felt like my Maxx was presentin'.

Okay, first off, i'm not trying to be an ass. All i'm trying to do is find a way to a way to better cater towards everyone. I was never complaining about the engine giveaway, NOR have I in the past. I was just pointing out that there can be complications to having a choice between an item or GC if the values aren't equal. IMO, those complications might be somewhat similiar to the engine giveaway fiasco.

I'm sorry for ever giving my opinion and or suggestion in an attempt to help out. In the future i'll leave my 2 cents out since they will obviously be taken the wrong way. Disregard every message i've made in this thread.

And NCNitro, I herby give you full permission to delete any thread or post made by me if you feel it is nonproductive or in anyways creates a negative effect on RCNT or it's members.

Edit: Just so you know, there has been several lotteries that i've chosen not to buy tickets for. I won't be buying one for this lotto as well. It'd be a shame to win something that I don't want when there someone else who wants it and would put it to use.

whoa.. i think everyones getting a little stressed with christmas and work and all that goes on this time of year and getting a little quick with each other :argue: ... all kwoong and i were trying to do was figure if there was a way everyone could be happy but like woodie said that is imposible it seems to be the majority that wants a single prize to win and thats fine....and just because you dont like a prize dosent meen you can't put a little in and see what happens you might get turned on to another part of the rc hobby (like any of us need to find another way to spend money :) )

this is supose to be fun remember, relax tip one up and it will all look better tomorow

Kwong, no need for me to delete any of your posts. Your opinions and ideas are welcome just as are all the members. However don't get angry when others opinions differ from yours. The only thing I have a problem with when a member would rather try and cause controversy over something that is supposed to be fun. I.E. stating WoodiE will offer undesirable prizes in hopes that a winner will chose the lesser prize. Or that the engine giveaway, caused problems, which by the way in no way shape or form is applicable in this thread. WoodiE has only thought of what is best for the site and its members, and it pisses me off when a member accuses him of any wrong doings. So instead of keeping your 2 cents to yourself, just keep it in line with the discussion. Thanks.
