I've been checking out other people's Savage pictures on this forum and I have noticed that some have put cable ties/zip ties around the cylinder head heatsink fins.... Why? I have tried to figure it out myself, I am a motor engineer you see... and I haven't a bloody clue!!!:wtf:

As mcvickj has stated, it is minor protection for the head of the engine. Think of it as real cheap break away bumpers for the head of the engine during bad rolls on pavement or gravel.

Ah I see! What a good idea! This site is awesome, thanks guys!

I ran my Savage without a body whilst I was setting it up, so I could access the carburettor better. I flipped it over on the pavement and I now have a great big scar across my nice new cylinder head. If only I'd known this trick earlier....:hammer:

Naw scratches give it charachter and lets us know you really drive you chit!

well doesn't the "roll bar" on the new savage pretty much protect the head..i know it protects mine....but well...its already bent so i give it mabye 2 more days ;)

If you try to back flip the Savage, the roll bar does nothing to protect the engine head if you don't land on all four. Heck, I've bent the crap out of a couple of engine heads...even with this inexpensive mod...like I said it offers a little protection.

Either go with a full cage for best protection or look into some head mounted skid plates. I know there are a few companies out their that make cooling heads that come with them. I seem to recall that the new TRAXXAS 2.5 (pardon me whilst I wash the bad taste from my mouth) comes with one.

Until you get the full cage, become an expert at keeping the truck on all four most of the time, zip ties are cheap and pretty effective for glancing blows to the head of your engine. Full on landings...well you take your chances there.

How the do you drive that?! LOL

I have even knocked my motor out of line by flippin g mine over it totaly smoked my spur gear. I bought a cage from rc-soultion and it solved all my roll over problems. I bash my truck all the time thats the fun right?

A sarcastic jab at one of out more volatile members...either brave or stupid. We'll see.

I just fitted a race pipe and motor saver air filter to mine, so I'm off to play now... I'll let you know if it survives.
(It's pretty likely to survive, the damn thing is built like a tank!!)
Just waiting for my 'Twister' twin brake kit to arrive.

Happy New Year folks!!

I am fine with Jeff Cain. He obviously came here because of his friend CRSMP5 and other Hot Body Lightning owners. They have all their websites linked and are buddies. I think Jeff understands I don't dig on the buggies, just dig on RobH for reviewing like it was gold before he drove it. Then CRSMP5 jumped in that thread, got his butt all hurt and said he was quiting RCNT because his vagina was inflamed. Like I said Jeff doesn't bother me. He has good info and helps people and seems to have more track experience than most of us. I took it as him being a smartass and we all know I can be a pretty big smartass myself...........its all good.

I figured he either knew you or was about to get to know you (in a way he would never forget). Either way...I just wanted to see where it went. So much for entertainment.

LOL Alright, who's got the train pic? This one was my fault. Come to think of it, I think the last one was my fault too with my NKOTB reference.

I guess we don't all necessarily have to like each other, it would be boring as hell if we all agreed with each other, and I like a good rumble just as much as the next guy. But it's nice to see someone pick their fights and use a little discretion from time to time. Not always....just once in a while!

NO group hug please....
