Hi, was wondering if anyone could help me, I bought a tmaxx from ebay and the guy said it was ready to run, the problem is this, I can get it started but it does'nt move, it just revs but doesn't move in either forward or reverse. I am unsure why so if anyone has any idea's I would be very glad to hear them. It is a 2.5 Tmaxx. Thanks, Mike.

Ok, it could be several things. Could be a bad clutch, or something as simple as the reverse servo is hung up between forward and reverse. I would start by checking the linkages from the reverse servo to the tranny and make sure it is fully engaging, if it is then you will want to check the clutch. Could possibly be the slipper is set way too loose as well.

same thing

the same thing happened to me when i bought mine.
its called top dead center, the point when its firing/most compression.
just take a screwdriver and bang on the fly wheel till it moves.
the fly wheel is on the engine its a little steel disk that moves all the time when the engine is running:yes:

O_o? OK, that just confused me, lol.

Jerry didn't read.

Disregard his post. In new model nitro motors, especially larger ones such as the 3.3, they tend to stick in the TDC position because the sleeve is tapered at the top, because these motors do not have piston rings... they get compression only by this taper towards the top. Before the motor is broken in, it is very tight at TDC. Just for the record, this was a real PITA when I broke in my 3.3. First couple tanks... was a real chore. lol And I do not suggest "banging" on the fly wheel with a screw driver. Gently pusing on it with a screw driver in a counter clockwise direction works just fine.

As for why yours isn't moving when you give it gas... as already said there is a host of things that could be causing that. (Did you already figure it out? I'm curious to hear what it was... since I am also new to the hobby.)

Tmaxx nightmare continues!!!

:surrenderThis truck is a nightmare! When i can get it started it idle's fine but as soon as you give it throttle it just revs away. Was considering getting it serviced but my local shop doesn't touch Traxxas!!!! Being new to nitro trucks I am left scratching my head. The ez start is also just another problem as well, so was considering a pull start, any idea's on that?

One thing at a time. You can start it, and it will idle.
When you hit the throttle the engine revs up but the car does not move. That's the info I'm getting from your post.

Okay, when it's running, pick it up and hit the throttle. Do the wheels turn?
When it's on the ground, without the body on, rev it and look at the gears. Is the clutch bell on the front of the engine turning when it revs up?
If it is, does the bigger spur gear that it's meshing with also turn?

When we know those answers we can tell you what to do next.

Hey buddy sorry it took so long to reply, been on hols, ok, when it is started and i rev it up and it is lifted of the ground the wheels dont spin, the black disc is spinning when i rev it but nothing happens, it spins the little silver disc that it connects to as well but nothing, any ideas?

I sounds like the truck is not fully engaged in either forward or revevse, there is a third servo that conects to a shaft that goes into the transmission on the front side of the transmission, opposite side from where the motor sits close to the battery holder, any way make sure that the little shaftt hat is going into the transmission is fully engaged all the way in or all the way out when you flip the f/r switch on the remote, also if the motor RPM's are to high that will keep it from shifting into either forward or revse, just some ideas because I was having a similar problem with mine, I just bought a FOC and droped the whole reverse thing all together...

I would try to manually pull out or push in the shift linkage when you have the truck turned off and the power switch off. Then, turn the switch on and start the truck and see what happens. I know sometimes my T-Maxx would hang up between forward and reverse and it would be stuck in "neutral".

It's alive!!!!!!

:hehe:ok, got it workin now, you were right it was'nt fully engaging but with a little tinkering I finally got it moving, just need to play with the needles now to get it up to speed, as it seems awfully slow at mo. Many thanks for your help, was beginning to pull my hair out, can't wait to get down the bmx track with it.Just one final thing though, if I were to get a 3.3 engine is it just a straight swap over?

It is just a straight swap if it is from a 2.5 or 2.5R if you have an older .15 version then there are some other thing you have to change, the only other thing is you will eventully end up doing some tranny work because the 3.3 tranny is a little beefier.
